There are so many different reef trips this may help you decide.
You can choose from luxery to budget day trips.
Or-- cairns.com.au/greatbarrierreef both offer dive and snorkel trips.
The weather is usually ok in November but remember it is our wet season,so no guarantees.
Hope this helps. Check this out with the tour operaters but remember plenty of drinking water to hydrate.
EAT, DRINK OR GAMBLE
by Anne12 about CASINO
The Casino has a few options for entertainment.
Of course you can go into the Gambling area and try to win a few dollars, while having a drink or two.
Then there is the area where you can have a drink and also listen to live music.
For those that want to have a bit of a light fantastic, there is a dance floor.
This is a popular place for young and old. All depends on the night. Sometimes it has a mature feel about it, others there is a mixture of ages.
They have a regular band that plays on weekends, also they have special guests.
I don't mind heading here to have a drink and dance.
It's a great place to people watch, as it is also known as a mature age pick up place. This mating game thing can be great intertainment!!!! Once again, you can wear your little black number, or you can go casual, jeans/long pants and shirt. You can't wear thongs ( shoe variety). Go glam or just go casual.
Yorkeys Knob Boating Club
by sue_stone about Yorkeys Knob Boating Club
Yorkeys Knob is a quiet haven just north of Cairns. It is home to a friendly boating club which is a popular place for locals to meet up day and night. The club has a bar and restaurant/bistro and the usual poker machine area.
My parents had been to the club several times before and suggested it as a relaxing lunch venue after our return from Green Island. They were spot on - the boating club has a large, covered deck area which is the perfect place to have a meal and check out the boats in the pretty harbour. Once you have decided what you want to order, you just need to pop up to the bar and order your food. While there, why not buy a chilled bottle of something white - the perfect accompaniment to a sunny afternoon.
I had the fish & chips and they were very good.
Scuba Diving Down Under
by trekaroundsue
I got PADI certified through Down Under Dive. It cost app. US$250. This included 2 days of pool excercises along with classroom lecture/exams. Then you get 2 days out on the reef to do your open water certification dives and look around. In between diving you can snorkel around which I recommend, the reef is just as amazing at the surface as it is down under. They also gave me a free day out on the reef to dive and snorkel but I got sick and couldn't use it.
Night Zoo
by rhondav_2004
My favorite activity while in Cairns was going to the Night Zoo...You are picked up at the hotel, and delivered to the Cairns Zoo at around 6P.M. You are served a wonderful bar-b-que steak dinner with all the fixins. While you are enjoying dinner, there is a singer/guitarist and all of the staff are dressed like Australian cowboys from the outback. After dinner, they give you a flashlight and take you on a walking tour of the nocturnal animals at the zoo...the last stop is around a camp-fire where they serve 'damper' which is a kind of bread (has a consistency and taste similar to banana bread-but not as sweet). The intent is not so much for you to eat the bread as it is for the 75-100 kangaroos that you are surrounded by...THEY LOVE IT! And we had a blast feeding the roos! This picture is of the staff feeding the biggest crocodile I have ever seen-must have been 20 feet...
