Great Stay

My family and I stayed at Rydges Esplanade in February and it was great! The Hotel has a great pool that my kids played in for hours and the hotel itself is only a little walk away from the kids playground on the waterfront.
We had a super room facing the Ocean which was great to wake up to, and we found out on check out that they even have Apartments there aswell which we will diffinately book next time!
The restaurant was great with a good selection of food and overall it was a throughly enjoyable stay.
Diffinatley recommend going.
So So, Theres better options.

My family stayed at the Rydges Esplanade last week.
Although we enjoyed our holiday, there was a fair few hiccups.
Upon arrival my parents went to their room which smelt awful, although we had requested NON smoking rooms that was what we were given. My parents where then moved to a different floor (we had 3 rooms total).
After the 3rd night my sister got back to her room after a day out and her room was smokey too - a smoker had arrived next door and the smoke came through under the adjoining locked door.
Having to get 3 children bath and into their pjs along with changing rooms with little or no assistance from the hotel staff they moved up a few floors... since it was a matter of repacking 2 things were left behind, once my sister realised this she contacted the front desk and was given the run around more than once and the missing items were not recovered to our knowledge.
It was in a good location to Muddys Playground which our children all had a ball playing at. In relation to the rest of the town and the main shopping area, its a good 15min walk. We got plenty of excersise! They did have a shuttle service i think though we didnt use it at all.
Its worth getting the Rydges membership, its free and you get some decent discounts.
Overall ok, we wouldnt stay there again.
Oh one last thing - dont book tours through the hotel, its alot cheaper to go to a tour office in town to book! :D
hth!
Awful place to stay

We stayed one night in a 2 bedroom apartment in this property. Thank goodness it was only for one night. It was awful. Very grotty furnishings, and surroundings. I would never recommend it to anybody. We thought that all Rydges accommodation would be up to a certain standard, but the apartments are privately owned and there are 2 that are not up to standard, according to the staff. Unfortunately we were in one of the sub standard units. VERY DISAPPOINTING.
We were so excited to be staying at Rydges, what a joke!!
Disappointed

We stayed there just for one night. And I am happy that it was just for this one. the room was pretty basic and a little "used". but that was ok.
The big problem was the toilet. There was a HUGE Urin stain on the inside of the seating from the toilet. i think that is unaccetable for a hotel especially for a for a one in this category.
It was really disappointed.
I would definitely not stay there anymore and will not recommend it to others!!
Nice Place, Helpful Staff

Located at the north end of the Esplanade with clean, comfortable rooms, this is a good choice for spending some time in Cairns. It's a 3 minute walk from the hotel to the beach, and another 5 to 10 minutes (walk vs. stroll) to the center of the Esplanade with its shops and restaraunts. Hotel staff are very pleasant and helpful, providing assistance with luggage and setting up tours.
The hotel has a large pool which looked quite inviting (although we didn't use it). We did see a number of other guests swimming and relaxing around the pool. The Fire and Ice dinner buffet was very good. Although the selection probably varies, we had prawns, steak, pasta, cold seafood selections, several salads and deserts.
The room is bright, with a ceiling fan over the bed and a decent sized bathroom. Strangely enough, there is no aircon temperature control in the room - just an on/off switch. We were comfortable with the ceiling fan, but if we had wanted the room to be cooler, we'd be out of luck.

Loved it!

We booked through wofit using the "mystery" option and we were delighted when we discovered which hotel it was. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The room was lovely with a great view of the mountains and Cairns city. Don't get suckered in to booking an ocean view as you can't see anything at night (with the ocean being dark!) but the night view from the mountain rooms was fantastic. In the late afternoon, the sun sets over the mountains and it's absolutely beautiful. The room is big and the bathroom was nice and clean and also big. Definitely recommend it. The only downside was the 15 minute walk to the city but it gives you time to work off the amazing food in Cairns. It's in a quiet location so no traffic or people noise.
Not value for money

The service was slow, unhelpful and the staff made mistakes such as booking our taxi for the wrong day. The rooms were passable but not worth the money we paid for them. They could have been cleaner and tidy. Also, the breakfast was overpriced. In fact, the only drawcard to the hotel is it waterfront and central position. It is around 15 mins walk to the centre of Cairns.
large rooms, everthing required for a nice stay

The end of our stay in Cairns was spent here… Helpful staff at the front desk... Big rooms with great air con x2 and fans above beds and tv, big wardrobe/bathroom and kitchenette and loungeroom with tv and dining… A 5 to 10 minute walk to town… The resort has 2 pools, the highlight being the lagoon style pool at the front of the complex, a really beautiful pool area, where we spent a good amount of time, it was a fair trek from our room but totally worth it!
Noisy

My wife was quite ill and we were arriving late at night from an overseas flight, and leaving first thing in the morning for a connecting flight, so I rang the hotel directly and requested a quiet room so she could get some much needed rest. They said they would place us away from the elevator which was nice, however, at 5 am someone in the next room had a shower & it sounded like we had an electric kettle boiling beside our bed. I thought a hotel of this size and star rating would have had a lot more sound proofing between rooms.
