Agincourt Reef.
by Sharrie
Depending on what you'd like to see & do, there are many choices of activities & routes to the Greet Barrier Reef.
I signed up with Quicksilver's 300-passenger fast cats daily trip to the Agincourt Reef from Port Douglas. This tour includes a semi-submersible ride, underwater observatory viewing, lunch & snorkelling gears.
Palm Cove - Shopping
by ettiewyn about Palm Cove Shopping Village
If you are in Palm Cove (for more info see tip Palm Cove - Beach), you can also take some time to shop. Just near the main bus stop there is the small "Palm Cove Shopping Village". There are of course the typical souvenir shops, but also some very nice shops for clothing and crafts where you can buy some special things like special post cards, gifts etc. Post cards, souvenirs, gifts
Crocodile Gremolata Salad
by kiwiwahine about The Chapel Cafe
Good selection of reasonable priced dished, good sized portions and reasonably priced. This cafe has a great atmosphere with a resident DJ in the bar are upstairs fromThurs night. Its a popular choice with dive operators and their passengers. So makes it ideal for picking up information on the best boats, crews and dive sites.
Tables are available inside or al fresco if you want to watch the world go by catch sunset over the lagoon. Crocodile Gremolata Salad
Skyrail, Train & Kuranda
by burlof
We got the train up and the skyrail back. While in Kuranda coming out to the main street be sure to make your morning tea stop the Kuranda Hotel which is right on the corner. Cold beer, hot delicious coffee and warm scones. The scones were only $3.50 for two including jam & cream and were extremely delicious and the coffee is locally grown and one of the nicest cups if not the nicest I had the entire time I was away.
The train has allocated seating which has it advantages and curses, especially if you dont like to travel backwards. There is an aisle on the left of the carriages and then seats to the right facing into each other, eight persons to a section. Lots to look at, mostly out of the right side of the train. It was a great journey.
Whilst in Kuranda you can just stroll around the shops, markets and the various wildlife parks. We went to the Butterfly House and the Bat Rescue. I have heard that Rainforestation is the better of all the places up there. The Bat rescue centre is only open certain days and entry by donation.
The Skyrail back was good even though I hate the bumps and find that kind of thing quite terrifying. I was put off because they said the journey takes 1.5 hours and I didn't want to be stuck in something like that for so long but it doesn't take that long, actually if anything what takes so long is standing in their queues to get on the darn thing!. There are a few stops along the way you can get off and one mandatory one where you have to change lines and queue up all over again. It was a bit annoying the way you had to allocate a return time yet you still had to fight crowds. Having said that the views are magical, especially toward the end as you come over the final hill and see the ocean and Cairns area and this leg of the journey seems to last quite a long enough time to take plenty of photos and enjoy the view.
Overall a fantastic day out !
FLECKER BOTANICAL GARDENS
by Anne12
This has to be one of my favourite places to visit.
This is situated in Collins Avenue, which has been recently given a road/garden upgrade, it's just wonderful to drive or walk along this road.
The gardens are beautifully kept. There is a large variety of tropical plants and walk ways through the gardens that are covered in shade by the over head palms and trees, while man made creeks run throughout these walkways.
Be sure to look towards the heavens as you will be amazed to see how many ferns have attached themselves to these trees. You will be delighted to see flowers in bloom and fruits of different plants.
The gardens are divided into different plant areas.
Each being bought together by lush green lawns.
A kiosk is situated here. You can sit among the flowering plants and enjoy breakfast, lunch or just an afternoon snack. There is an inside area, also an outside area, under umbrellas.
Hours are
7.30am to 5.30pm Week days.
8.30am to 5.30pm Weekend and Public Holidays
This is one place, like many others that is not to be missed.
The Gardens have a free entry.
