Chillagoe Hub - Information Centre
by ettiewyn
The Chillagoe Hub is the place to get information about town and the surroundings. You can also book tours to the caves here. There is also a small exhibition about how the landscape and caves were formed, about the history of this area etc.
It is located in Queens Street, but as Chillagoe is so small, you really can't miss it.

Chillagoe - at the edge of the outback
by ettiewyn
Chillagoe is a small town approximately 200km west of Cairns. So if you would like to see a little bit of the outback but do not have much time, a day trip to Chillagoe is good choice. There is also a day trip by Billy Tea Safaris that includes the Mareeba wetlands.
Chillagoe is indeed veeeery small - about 200 people - but it once was a town of 10 000 inhabitants. That was during the late 19th and early 20th century when it was a big mining town, living of copper and also the timber industry. You can see the traces of history every - ancient history in the caves, mining history at the old mining sites, and all surrounded by beautiful outback scenery.
