CHINCHILLA SHOWGROUNDS: CHEAPER CAMPING

Are you looking for some-where in town to stay that is cheaper than the available Caravan parks, then perhaps you should check out the Chinchilla showgrounds.
The showgrounds has accommodation for Tents, Caravans, Camper Trailers, Fifth Wheelers, Motorhomes and Camper vans.
The area is large, has plenty of trees for shade in Summer, quite a few powered sites and many un-powered sites. Picnic tables, Shelter sheds, Toilets and showers, Internet reception, plenty of rubbish bins.
There are a few Amenitie blocks located around the showgrounds.

We stayed at the Showgrounds in our Caravan for the Melon Festival that is held bi-annually in February. A total of 470 different types of campers stayed here over the festival.
As there was such a huge number using the Amenities and there were areas of red dirt, the showers, even though cleaned each morning became dirty quite quickly. A mop and bucket was left in the Amenities to be used for mopping before and after using, although I think I was the only one doing this. Once the majority of campers left, the Amenites were much cleaner, although still nothing special.

Over the Melon Festival, a powered site cost $40, I do believe they normally cost approx. $25.

With all the activities going on and the large number of people camping here, there WAS NOT ANY NOISE!

A care-taker looks after the park and to make a booking, which you need to do well in advance if coming for the Melon Festival, email or ring (info below)

CHINCHILLA WEIR: Free Camping!

Chinchilla Weir, we knew, was a FREE CAMPING AREA.
We had been past before, and decided that it looked ok, so it was here we headed.

There were quite a few Caravans already here. We found a nice spot with our Caravan, and then hooked into FREE POWER - YOU WILL NOT FIND MANY PLACES LIKE THIS!

The grass had been mowed, we could have an open fire, there were wooden BBQ's, Picnic Tables & Chairs, Plus Toilets. No showers.
It is located right beside the lake. Kangaroo's, Parrots and other Birdlife, made this a very pleasant area to stay.
We will be returning here for sure!

FREE........BUT CAN ONLY STAY FOR A MAXIMUM OF 2 NIGHTS.

A small donation left at the Visitor Information centre for use of power is appreciated.

It is signposted from Chinchilla.
Ask at the Information Centre for directions.
Located on the banks of the Condamine river, 8kms from Chinchilla.
