Travel Tips for Daintree
Daintree
by Kate-Me
We weren't exactly sure where the Daintree rainforest started, so we decided to begin by visiting the town of Daintree itself - which didn't actually turn out to be the place to start, as the river cruises and rainforest boardwalks etc were quite some kilometres away.
We stopped at the town for a few minutes for a little look around (it's just a few buildings and interesting enough souvenir shops and booking office for cruises in one little street)
Bays
by bluesmama
This goes for all of Australia (except the centre obviously). There are so many beautiful bays along the way.
This bay was somewhere in the far north of Queensland and we were told that this is where they filmed the opening scenes of the movie "The thin red Line"
Cassowary
by Kate-Me
Cassowary's can actually be quite dangerous and aggressive (territorial at breeding season) but we didn't know this when we approached this fellow.
Fortunately he wasn't interested in chasing or kicking us, or even in the scrap of bread we offered him but rather in just admiring his reflection in the back of this car!
Jindalba Boardwalk
by ValbyDK
Jindalba is a 700 meter boardwalk circuit through the rainforest. The circuit takes about 30 minutes, and is a really nice walk where you can see and learn about the rainforest environment. There were a small creek, and many plants, flowers, and trees – for instance king ferns, palms, and fig trees. At least that’s what I read from the many information signs, which were posted along the track, explaining about the flora and fauna of the rainforest.
Jindalba is home of the big and colourful Cassowary bird, but we didn’t see any on our walk…
Cassowary 2
by Kate-Me
Size wise, Cassowaries are just a bit shorter than emus, very similar body shape, with the same huge feet and powerful legs.
In the colour of the head though, the resemblance really ends. The cassowaries are really rather striking and iridescent here, especially in the sun!
