Visit Calliope Township

Calliope is 20 km south-west of Gladstone which grew on the back of the discovery of gold in the area. Much of the population now work in the regional mines or at Gladstone so it has become quite a busy little town.

There really isn't too much here but there is an interesting history and the Historical village is worth a visit.

A surprise was the little art gallery - some wonderful paintings of the area - I so regret not buying a painting from here.

There are many picnic areas along the banks of the river too.

"Our first Visit to Gladstone"

We flew into Gladstone and flew out. We had 2 nights in between and didn't have a car. We were based at the Rydges Hotel and didn't see much that wasn't in walking distance except the Botanic Gardens.

It was quite an interesting town but at the same time SO industrial. Mind you that is why it is there so you can't really criticise. I am glad I saw it and if you are driving that way pull in for a look around but I wouldn't recommend it as a holiday destination unless you were into fishing and planning to go off shore.
