An average hotel really but the pool and views from there over the harbour are great.
Some rooms have nice views over the harbour, some over the town - the lower floors nothing worth looking at. To get a harbour view you want to saty at the back of the hotel. Rooms on the lower floors at the front were noisy - not from people but from the thousands of birds which came in to rest at sunset and flew out at sunrise, in the trees on the street....interesting but so noisy!
The rooms themselves were OK - I only saw two - some have been done up and apparently they will all be renovated soon as Rydges has not long had the hotel.
If you book through a discounting chain (e.g. Hotel Club, Wotif) you should get better rates than at the door.

Unique Quality: The pool area is very nice with great views. No other great facilities - restaurant was nice and I have reviewed this also.
Location is great in the middle of town so you can walk out for breakfast, meals, shopping etc.
Directions: Middle of Gladstone
Comfortable clean rooms. We had a great view of the harbour which isn't your typical beach front but interesting all the same. We did request that side of the building and possibly paid a little more for it.
Very satisfactory and in a great position in the main street with shops both grocery and other quite handy. Some touristy type lookouts were well within walking distance. Quite an amount of parking but not all of it undercover and not secure.
If I returned to Gladstone I would stay here again.
Unique Quality: The pool is a cool shape but to cool for swimming in May!
Directions: In the main street. About 10 minutes from the airport. Cost just under $20 in a taxi.
If you have to stay in Gladstone then this hotel is the best in town. It is located in Goodoon Street, which is the main street of Gladstone’s city heart, so you just walk outside and you have the shops. (Hopefully you may see someone.) I have never seen a town so quite.
The hotel is a comfortable country style hotel offering harbour views from some rooms. If staying here make sure, you ask for harbour views otherwise you will just get the street view, which is rather boring. I had booked a harbour view room and on arriving, we were given room 414, which did not have a water view. I asked to be changed and they were happy enough to please.
Our new room 413 was on the fourth floor and had distant views of the water and Heron Island. The room consisted of double bed, couch and two leather chairs, good size working desk, large modern TV, mini bar, air-conditioning, complimentary in-house movies, laundry service, tea and coffee facilities with a small private balcony.
The hotel has a good size outdoor swimming pool with plenty of table and chairs. There is a very nice restaurant on the lobby floor. It is about 10 minutes by taxi to the airport or if driving there is ample parking available.
Unique Quality: Tip: have drinks at The Grand Hotel one block up the hill from hotel. An $8.00AUD shout of wine and beer, wine being Oyster Bay (NZ)….and $18.00 bottle for a take-away, usually $25-30 retail in a bottle shop. For a good night out go to the Yacht Club.
Overall, a good quality country hotel, just make sure you book the water view rooms...the other rooms are very ordinary.
