What to do with a 1 year old & 3 year old on the Gold Coast?

by CandS

Hi all

Just wondering what would be the best things to see & do with a 18 month old & 3.4 year old on & around the Gold Coast? We were thinking maybe MovieWorld (our boy loves Batman etc) and I've heard there's a Wiggles World or something somewhere? Is there much to do for littlies at any of the 'World's?? And what about the Australia Zoo?

Thanks!

Yes there are plenty of "worlds" on the Gold Coast. Sea World is popular. Currumbin has beautiful birds. You can go for a Day up to Tamborine Mountains not far.
Just type the key word in the search box eg Tambourine (you have to use that spelling)or Gold Coast and you will find heaps.

A lot of folks enjoy R M Williams Show but maybe not perhaps an 18 months littly.

Australia Zoo is marvellous but it is not on the Gold Coast. Rather the Sunshine Coast hinterland. You have at least 2 hours travel ...over the Gateway Bridge (Toll) on the Bruce/Glasshouse Mountain Highway. Public transport a bit laborious IMO.

Thanks heaps! Actually we will be up at Noosa for a week or so too with family so hopefully we can do Australia Zoo while up there! :)

Currumbin is great for children, make sure you are there for the Lorikeet feeding. Kids love it, they land everywhere on you. Inside, walk amongst the kangaroo's etc. pat them, see the show, have a python around your neck and take your own photo for free, plenty children enjoy here, plus an excellent playground. Check their website as they often have deals.
Go to O'reilly's feed the parrots here, once again they land all over you.
More details are on my gold coast, tamborine mountain & lamington national park tips.

Hi Movie World will be good. My wife & I were there 4 years ago, exciting street action, shows etc etc. The rides looked to fearsome for us so we went on the Childrens rides, rollercoaster etc. You will enjoy doing thses rides with your 3 year old.

We also visited Seaworld, suitable for all ages, some good shows including the dolphins and seals. Do not miss it.

I read you are going to Noosa for a week, great decision, plenty to see and do. There is a market Wednesdays & Saturdays, about 13 km from Noosa, make certain you visit. Photos on my Noosa Heads page, also check out Surfers paradise page for photos on Sea World and Movie World.

Thanks heaps all! :)

Yep, we have family up there so we'll stay with them in Noosa. :) We have been to all the Worlds before but a long time ago...at least 5 years ago pre-children so we weren't looking for the same sorts of things...haha! Now we need somewhere that the kids can enjoy too. :)

Travel Tips for Gold Coast

Down by the sea

by iandsmith

It's a fair bet that one of the things you'll do is go to the beach while you're on the Gold Coast. That is, after all, the reason the whole place started. When I first came up here from Newcastle it was basically Coolangatta and Surfers Paradise. My first trip also co-incided with the commencement of the never-ceasing boom and the sprawl of development that seeks to swallow up every last bit of land in the area, sometimes with little thought of the environment.
I can recall a time when there was a warning sign about koalas crossing near Currumbin. Of course, they never had a chance. They only ones you'll see here now are in a zoo. Once you rip the habitat out it's bye, bye animals.
The lasting thing is the beaches, but even that has changed. What used to be three breaks at Snapper Rocks, Coolongatta and Kirra is now just one when the big swells roll in as tonnes of sand and some flawed development have seen the beach change shape forever.......................until man decides to change it again.
This particular photo is of North Burleigh or Miami, take your pick, they're so close they overlap. It just happens to be my grandaughter in the snap on a day when I had my first surf of the year and had my first day at the beach with her.

Beginning of Pathway Construction

by aussirose

Hubby & crew had to clear a nice path and fence if off before going any further. Each side of the path looks a bit bare. That's because they removed a tonnes of bitu bush, a weed that had gone out of control. But it wasn't long before the natural Australian bush grew back.

O'Reilly's Guesthouse - Tree-Top Walk

by ATXtraveler

Located about 70km west of the Gold Coast within Lamington National Park is a spot called O'Reilly's Guesthouse, which has a spectactular tree-top walk using suspension bridges 20-30 meters above the rainforest canopy.

There are some beautiful views to be seen here, and although my fear of heights kept me from going to the top, Sarah ventured further up one of the lookout posts, to get some great photos of the treetops!

The suspension bridges support up to 6 people per span, so for those people like me that are afraid of heights, please respect this... otherwise I may throw you off!

Hire a Car

by ATXtraveler

Sarah and I decided that the best way to see the Gold Coast is by hiring a car. We definitely packed on the miles with this little Renault... I would highly recommend getting a 4 cylinder to save on your petrol bill!!

We chose Budget from the online deals available from Brisbane!

Ashmore Steak and Seafood

by timtrina about Ashmore Steak and Seafood

The smell even before you get in the door is amazing. The service is 1st class, the decorations are beautiful. The walls are filled with 25,000 bottles of wine which you can order with your meal, or buy some to take home. Mornay Bugs (Moreton Bay Bugs that is!)
