Miscellaneous Tips (Gold Coast, Australia)- Hotel Reviews

Sea World Nara Resort is a low rise (3 levels) resort on "the Spit" at the Gold Coast. I guess the resort is a little tired otherwise it was good. In comparison to other resorts that we have stayed in throughout our travels I would probably dispute its 4 1/2 star rating but It was comfortable and the amenities quite good. I think that mainly the level of service was not to the usual standard expected of a resort of that rating. The pool was not as clean as one would expect, the spa kept breaking down and the cafe near the pool had odd hours of operation.

They also used this area for private functions, which was often during our stay and at this time the cafe was closed to guests. A few times that we were by the pool we actually had to ask the staff to clear plates from the tables as the Ibis's could come along and pick at the plates and cause the crockery and cutlety to fall off the table and smash on the floor. Not a good combination with people walking around the pool with bare feet.

The pool catered for everyone with shallow wading areas for small children also. The pool is open from 7 am to 10 pm however the times were not strictly policed and we were often woken at 6am or kept awake late into the night by people mucking around in the pool. If we were to come again I would definitely ask not to have a pool view room for this reason. The walls of the resort also seemed a bit thin as we could hear all the babies around us crying in the middle of the night. This may sound petty but when you are on hoildays you wouldlike the occassional lie in or peaceful nights rest without being woken at all sorts of hours by noise.

The resort has nice restaurants offering Buffet dinners, Japanese and an international fine dining restaurant.

You can have beauty treatments there too in the salon. there is a gym also.

Mostly the concierge desk was quite helpful, there were a couple of guys there who couldn't do enough for you but a few times we had someone who could not be bothered and gave us a bit of run around.

Overall the stay was good though. the proximity to Sea World itself was the best part.

One thing to bare in mind when coming here and not having your own car is that there is no public bus service that services the resort. You have to walk about a km to the nearest bus stop and a bit further than that to get to the Marina where there are a number of trendy cafe's and restaurants to dine at. Nara resort is pretty isolated so you have no choice but to dine in if you can not be bothered to make the trip to the bus stop or the marina.

Interestingly enough, I emailed them a little bit of feedback upon our return and just to prove their non chalant attitude, they did not even acknowledge the feedback at all. Coming from a service industry myself I found this pretty poor.
