Great Barrier Reef from Brisbane

by Shubhanjali

I would like to know how to cover the Great Barrier Reef and the Whitsundays in a span of 3 days cost-effectively. Please suggest if I should take the one day trippers or plan a cruise trip. I would be starting from Brisbane and have only 3 days in hand. I am totally confused and cannot plan my itenary. As I do not find the cruises to these places directly from Brisbane. Most of them are via Airlie Beach and transport to the Airlie Beach will add cost.

Mate, both Jetstar and Virgin Blue has a daily direct flight from Brisbane to the Great Barrier Reef Airport on Hamilton Island and Whitsunday Coast Airport at Proserpine. Flight time is about 1hr 15min.
Remember, the Whitsundays is about 1160km north of Brisbane!
Fantasea Cruises will meet you at the airport with ferry services to Daydream Island, Club Med Lindeman Island or Shute Harbour.
Cruise Whitsundays can ferry you to Daydream Island, South Molle Island, Long Island and Abel Point Marina (Airlie Beach).
Whitsunday Coast Airport is about 40km from Airlie Beach.
Hope this helps with your planning.

Agreed with the above. And it's a shame you can't stay longer, as it's an amazing part of Australia.

With 3 days, you'll probably only have time for a day-trip out to the Whitsundays. Or if your return flight is late in the day, maybe maybe you could do a 2day 1nite sailing trip.

Good luck and enjoy!

Great Barrier reef is along way from Brisbane, i suggest that you look at the booking a domestic flight. The cheapest flights are normally with Virgin of Jet Star.

If you do make it to the great barrier reef I highly recommend doing an overnight sailing cruise, this is the best and most cost effective way to see the reef and islands. Below is a link which will give you information on the trip that we did. http://www.godo.com.au/activity/VBDS100 We had a great time, everything was taken car of including food, accomodation, diving equipment and instruction.

Have fun

As the others say, you'll have to fly out of Brisbane. Doing a cruise from Brisbane would take you the better part of your 3 days just to arrive, if not more.

Thumbs up to the above answers. I'd fly directly to Hamilton Island on the Whitsundays. The view of the islands as you bank right for a landing is awesome!....make sure you request seats on the right side of the plane :o)
Go to flightcentre.com for the cheapest deal. You can do day trips from Hamilton Island. Cheers, Ann :o)

A Beach Not To Miss

by Wren12

If you're thinking about visiting the Gold Coast, there's a beach called Fingal Head near Tweed Heads that you must see. It's very quiet, with great surf and views from the lighthouse that are not to be missed.

I have been fortunate enough to see dolphins and manta rays swimming past while sitting atop the hill where the lighthouse is situated.

Absolutely beautiful.

Margaritas on the River -...

Margaritas on the River - Bundall
Not really a nightclub - not really just a restaurant. It's a terrific place to sit back and drink with friends. Great Margaritas and Daquiris and great food too. Fantastic atmosphere right on the water - only 5 min cab ride to Surfers afterwards. Smart Casual

Coffee on the mall

by robertgaz about Toscani's Cafe Bar & Restaurant

Toscani's Cafe Bar & Restaurant Italian & Mediterranean Cuisine is open 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

It is centrally located in the Cavill Mall which is at the heart of Surfers Paradise. The caramel swirl cheesecake was very rich but a perfect treat with a long, strong black coffee.

Horse Racing - Gold Coast Turf Club

by MissBianca

Have a spare day to kill? Don't mind a bit of an occasional punt? Want to experience horse racing the Gold Coast way? Then head to the Gold Coast Turf Club! The track is only 5 minutes from Surfers Paradise and has been in operations for over 50 years.

The track welcomes everyone from young to old, even catering for the littlies. Every Saturday children can expect free access all day to the on site jumping castle. The track also has some great spots within its ground to bang down a picnic blanket and relax for the day.

The Gold Coast Turf Club is open every Saturday from approximately 11am with most races commencing around noon. There over a dozen seperate bars, restaurants, cafes and bistros available to the public and general members.

If you are on the Gold Coast during a Carnival Day, I definitely recommend going. Even if you aren't a big gambler. Its a great chance to dress up, get glamorous and enjoy a fantastic day out!

General admission is approximately $6 while all children under the age of 18 are free.
