Helicopter Ride on the Gold Coast
by CandS
Hi all
Has anyone been on a helicopter joy ride at the Gold Coast? I'm thinking of going when we go up there in July/August.
I'd love to have any recommendations of companies to use or avoid and an idea of how much it costs etc. Ta!

I didn't go up but got a ticket for a family friend who loved the trip.
Tour was with Gold Coast Helitours: http://www.goldcoasthelitours.com.au and was $90.00 for 10 minutes. Apparently you see a whole lot in 10 minutes!
Another group is http://www.abcheli.com.au/joyflights with flights from about $80.00
Both seem to do the same thing and roughly the same price and both go from Gold Coast Airport.
Travel Tips for Gold Coast
Lovely views of the beach from our hotel room
by bkarjee
The hotel (Surfers Pacific Tower) where we were staying in Surfers Paradise had lovely views of the beach from every room including the kitchen. I would sit in the balcony of the hotel for hours togather, sipping beer and munching ground nuts.
The manager of the Hotel was very happy when we told them that we live in Singapore. Her elder son was also staying in Singapore for last 3 years and she was planning to visit Singapore in couple of months for her daughter-in-law's delivery. We would talk at length about the various tourist places on the eastern coast of Australia. She had visited almost all popular places in East coast and was urging us to visit some additional places which were better then gold coast but not as popular among International tourists.
The sun would be up at 05:30 hrs and in the early morning hours, a lot of people would go for long walks along the beach and the beach petrol were up in action since early morning hours. Most of the time, I would see the red yellow flags on the beach, indicating that one needs to swim between these flag posts. They were monitored by the coast guards. And they were very helpful guys.
Finished Pathway

Here's the finished pathway. After about 6 months this pathway looked totally different. The new natives planted had grown heaps and it looked more green and healthy. It probably looks heaps better now :o)
Bushwalking Binna Burra
by goldcoaster
If you want to really challenge yourself with a bush walk, head to Binna Burra and try some of the loop tracks there. Some are about 16km long, one is an overnighter but only for very experienced walkers.
Binna Burra is part of the world heritage eastern rainforest corridor and includes Nightcap Ranges and Lamington NP as well.
If you are looking for a place to get away from the tourist crowds and see why the Coast is so special, you gotta head here. They also have a camping ground and a limited number of rooms in the lodge. It is rugged terrain and can get extremely cold in winter.
Surfside Buses!!
by grantravel
Gold Coast bus services run 24 hours a day and can get you to at least the main street of most suburbs and shopping centres.
Services throughout the Gold Coast and Tweed are operated by Surfside Buslines which offer a 24 hour service along the highway. Look for the stops at 300 metre intervals.
Timetables are available through the Surfside Buslines website.
To catch the bus you need to wait at a bus stop and hail the bus as it approaches you. You need to have the cash fare, ticket and your concession card ready as you board.
Express buses to the theme parks are also available from Mermaid Beach, Broadbeach, Surfers Paradise, Southport to Runaway Bay.
Connections to Queensland Rail services are made at Robina Station, Nerang Station and Helensvale Station.
Get on the water !
by Aquacraig
Take a day trip to Couran Cove Resort on South Stradbroke Island. This is an eco resort built 10 years ago by olympic athlete Ron Clarke . It is really worth a look.
There is a secluded beach there as well as great food outlets and watersports.
