Hyatt Regency Sanctuary Cove
by sassa22
Hello!
I will be travelling (from Europe) to the Gold Coast in May.
Does anyone have any tips on the Hyatt hotel in Sanctuary Cove, or Sanctuary Cove alone? Is the hotel isolated from the rest of sights?
I'd appreciate any tips on what to wear during that season. (one week stay)
Thanx!
Sassa

I agree, smart casual clothing. That's the last month of Autumn, so you might want to have a jacket for the cooler evenings.
There's plenty to do on the resort itself, but it's a bit out-of-town. It's an easy trip into Surfers Paradise - I'm sure the hotel will have a shuttle bus.

OK. The Hyatt is a nice hotel but Sanctuary Cove is about 25 mins drive away from the main part of the Gold Coast. On the plus side it is close to Dreamworld, Movieworld and Wet N Wild. There is no shuttle bus I am aware of so you would need to hire a car or get well aquainted with the cab drivers.
Personally, I'd stay a bit closer in to the main areas at the Sheraton or Versace but if you have already booked and payed then look to hire a car. May is the off season so you can get some cheap ones once you arrive. Don't book the Avis or Budget as they are very expensive compared to what you can get.
Our Autumn is probably not that unlike an English summer except for the occassional westerly wind that can be cold. We have a saying on the Gold Coast about our style called Gold Coast casual which covers shorts and tshirt to tuxedo. We are a very laid back bunch here. One thing for sure. You will have a great time here.

Travel Tips for Gold Coast
The Beach...
by CandS
The beautiful beach at the Gold Coast...ahhh... We got to this beach too early in the morning to go swimming so instead we just went for a long walk...there were many other joggers and walkers out also. It's a great way to spend the early morning hours...
South Stradbroke Island
by marki
This is definitely undiscovered, but only a couple of kilometres from Surfers Paradise. A large sand island 20km long, it has empty beaches. A ferry runs from the west side of The Spit for about $7 return. A more expensive ferry to Couran Cove runs several time past the campgrounds.
Hire a car!!!!

While the bus system on the Gold Coast is OK, the best way to see sights off the beaten path is to hire a car. You can get great deals locally, so no need to book in advance.
There is more freedom to investigate the mountains or head down the coast into New South Wales, areas not serviced by local buses just overpriced tours.
While we drive on the left, the street system is very easy to get around. All the streets are north/south or east/west. One you know which of the high rises is your hotel, it's no problem.

MONTEZUMA'S SURFERS PARADISE
'OPEN 7 DAYS, LUNCH & DINNER'. 'Licensed Mexican Restaurant Where the Locals Meet to Eat'.
A great place to relax and meet with friends and get to know the local vibe. The prices are really good and meals aren't on the lean side.
Drinks are cheap and there is much relaxed laughter in this warm and friendly place.
