Train would be the best way to go. At each station, there is a connection by bus to the "actual' coast.
You need to get the train that goes to the Gold Coast, which is on the Beenleigh Train line.

Travel Tips for Gold Coast

Southport

by aberacadabra

Top-One Restaurant, Mount Tamborine,
Stumbling upon a Thai Buddhist temple with a monastic community in Nerang. Southport is the de-facto capital of the Gold Coast and so, it's where you go to get administrative and government related work done. The first thing you'll notice about the Southport-set is they're very different from the other denizens of the Gold Coast.
There was a memorable occasion when I was walking from the Southport Hospital to Australia Fair to meet my partner for lunch, and whilst on my way past a café, there were two young men who made my day with rude taunts for no apparent reason. It wasn't nice, but there wasn't any point at all in engaging these two rednecks. After all, it IS Southport.

Beach Volleyball!!!

by adelaidean

The beach volleyball seems to be just part of Surfers Paradise beach...We were on the beach after 4.00 and they were still playing hard..BTW...for all those girls out there....these guys looked pretty good!!!!! LOL

The Gold Coast hinterlands/...

by hatter10_6

The Gold Coast hinterlands/ Lamington National Park is between Brisbane and Gold Coast. Excellent bush walks. Beautiful rainforest. Don't forget to visit the Natural Arch just outside the national park. Vist at sunset, because the glow worms don't come out till then. It's like sky lined with blue stars.

International Flights to Gold Coast

by marki

Contrary to some earlier posts, the Gold Coast (Coolangatta) airport is now served by several international flights. Freedom Air fly from Auckland, Hamilton and Dunedin in New Zealand. Australian Airlines fly to Japan, Singapore and a few other places via Cairns. Its also easy to fly into Sydney and take a domestic flight. Freedom Air offers low trans-tasman fares if booked via the net.

Frequent local busses operated by Surfside run from Tweed Heads to Southport stopping at the airport. Theres also inexpensive car hire.

Seafood Smorgasboard.......Yummmmm!!!

by aussirose

The best way to see Surfers at night in lights is from the water. And what better way than by dinner cruise. There are heaps to choose from and most of them have shows. We went on one that had a polynesian dance spectacular show and they got us all involved too. And the food...... mmmm, plenty to choose from :o)
Definately a must!!!!
