i needed help urgently!!!
by andie_luv2
i am from singapore. me and my bf will be visiting Goldcoast for a 7 day tour this coming 20th oct to 26 oct... as this is our first time there, we got TOTALLY no idea wat place to visit etc...
as we will be staying over at my friend's place (near surfer's paradise), so we are thinking for the first 3 days, we would spend time in those "world" theme parks... probably movie world, sea world and dream world. is there other theme parks that u guys recommend?
as for the next 4 days, we were planning to go for longer road trips and shopping trips.
so we were thinking should we rent a car from the start for the whole 7 days when we arrive in brisbane airport and drive to gold coast, or should we rent for the last 4 days only for those longer road trips and take airport transfer/public transport for the rest of the days(inclu. the airport transfer to and fro brisbane airport and goldcoast)?
is there any other interesting and must go places in goldcoast/ brisbane?
we are more into a shopping/ sight seeing trip..
really urgently need the help from any kind soul who has answers to my above questions.
thankz so much!!

You've got the theme parks covered, except for Wet 'n Wild - if you're into water fun!
Obviously you've got the beaches along the Gold Coast from the Spit to Cooloongatta. Check out Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary at http://www.currumbin-sanctuary.org.au/content/home.asp?
Just across the border into NSW, you'll find Tropical Fruit World. Check out http://www.tropicalfruitworld.com.au/
Head into the Gold Coast Hinterland to visit Lamington National Park. Have a look at http://www.epa.qld.gov.au/projects/park/index.cgi?parkid=97
Feed the Rainbow Lorikeets, King Parrots etc at O'Reilly's. They are at http://www.oreillys.com.au/
Whale watching along the Gold Coast is another option you may want to consider.
Don't have to go all the way to NZ to zorb. Check it out at http://www.zorb.com.au/
Some ideas to get you started. Hope it helps!

Johan's advice on places to visit is good particularly the Currumbin and O'Reilly's suggestion. Since you are staying in a friends place you may be better off driving than relying on transfers. If you do you will cross a toll bridge on the way and will need Australian currency to pay this toll (its only $2.90, change given). Also your visit coincides with Gold Coast Indy , so expect road closures and traffic delays in the Gold Coast/Southport area. A day pass on the Sunday to the race might be a good option as well. There are many more General Admission areas than at the Singapore F1 ( I was there). As for shopping, except for beachwear, why bother. It won't be better than Singapore.
Travel Tips for Gold Coast
O'Reilly's
by iandsmith
The hinterland of the Gold Coast has some magnificent rainforest, much of it locked up in the Lamington National Park fortunately.
However, there's an icon that preceded the national parks and it's arguably Australia's best known guest house.
Much of the area surrounding is what is known as dry rainforest because scree slopes mean that vegetation is relatively sparse in the undergrowth. It takes a good hour to reach O'Reilly's and that's mainly because of the last 35 kms after you turn off at Canungra.
Sure, it's quite good for the first few k's but, after that when it starts climbing be prepared to average around 40kph.
It's twisty, it's narrow, it's scenic and it's unforgettable. At the end is the guest house, villas, a wellness centre and a NPWS office with walking maps and information.
From here there are walks aplenty, around a dozen in fact, ranging from short to multiple overnight.
I went down the Brush Box Trail to Elebana Falls (pics 1 and 5), probably the most photographed of all the falls in Lamington and second only to the Natural Arch which lies closer to the coast on a different road.
South Stadbroke Island Getaway !
by grantravel
'Straddie' was our favourite getaway when we were kids. We went there quite often with family in my younger years, and then with my mates when I was older.
Camping on South Stradbroke Island is the perfect retreat if you want to escape the fast pace of everyday life to totally relax in a holiday amongst its natural and undeveloped beauty.
The island has beautiful unpopulated beaches, several resorts that offer facilities for day trippers, including water sports and environmental tours and is also great for beach fishing, swimming and surfing.
How to get there:
If you don't know someone with a boat, the ferry services to Stradbroke leave from Runaway Bay, about 20 minutes' drive north of Surfers Paradise. It takes about 15 minutes for the ferry to reach this 20-km-long sandy island with its quiet beaches.

Conrad Jupiters in Broadbeach is well known for its Casino which has more than 1,100 gaming machines and 90 table games. There are live stage shows in the Las Vegas style showroom and a Nightclub as well as six restaurants.
You could book in at the hotel, never leave the building the whole time you are there and be entertained around the clock.
Big Juicy Ribs Mmmmmmmmm!!!
by hayley_69 about Ribs & Rumps
Now when my friend said to me lets go to Ribs & Rumps, i umed about it as i never really eat rips or rumps, as i dont buy much meat outside of home, just not much of a meat eater really.
But when i finally decided to say yes to my friend to go, i tell you i cant believe the food there, it was AMAZING.
The food is a little pricey but the serving sizes are amazing. The ambiance and surroundings are hip and new and very modern. A very popular restaurant.
Ribs and Rumps are located not only in Qld but all around Australia and even overseas they are located.
Opening Hours are:
Monday - Sunday 12:00pm till 10:00pm. I have only been 2 times to the restaurant, but the food is outstanding.
Both times i had the the 1/2 chicken and ribs, for the ribs you can choose from either pork, beef or lamb ribs.
Its all about the secret sauce they cover all the food in, its like a having the KFC chicken coating secret recipe, but this sauce is like a BBQ sauce, but its better then normal BBQ sauce.
Movie World
by dancinbudgie
Want to meet your favourite movie star? Feel up to being rocketed upwards 60 metres on the Batwing? Want to go from 0-100kph in 2 seconds on the Superman Escape? Go to Movie World! It's a fun day out.
Tip: if you don't meet the height restriction stand on your tippy toes (its what my 3 year old did to make it on to the Road Runner roller coaster! his first Roller Coaster...such a brave little bugger! When he came off he was so excited...laughing his head off and saying over and over "Mummy...it took out my breath!"
A word of warning...we went during the Xmas - new year break and the crowds were huge! bring along your patience for the queues!
