Accommodation for 4 adults & 2 kids

by CandS

Hi all

We're heading up to QLD in July/August hopefully for a week or so. We want a 3 bedroom apartment in the Gold Coast with heaps of facilities onsite if possible (pool, playground, gym/tennis courts etc??). I'm tossing up between the Paradise Island Resort and the Breakfree Diamond Beach Resort. Has anyone been to either and what are your thoughts?

Or do you know of somewhere else that would be suitable?

I'm also wondering if it's still swimming weather in July/August (with heated outdoor pools) or is it too cold by then??

Any tips/suggestions welcome. Ta! :)

It is winter, but compared to Victoria, it is warm. Heated pools will be quite ok. Usually winter's days are nice and sunny, you will see a lot of people sitting outside enjoying the sun. It is our dry time of the year. I, myself, find winter very mild. The gold coast is always slightly cooler to Brisbane because of the sea breezes, and as with other parts of Oz and the world, we never know what the weather will bring these days, it has changed so much!

Both resorts are pretty similar. Breakfree is closer to the beach and shopping areas and probably has easier transport access too. I have driven past but never been in either so can't offer much there.

All of my southern friends swim when they come up to visit in winter - I think they are crazy - but the water is warmer than in Vic or SA or most of NSW, usually about the equivalent of those States summer sea temp!. They also wear T shirts when I have a windcheater on. Go figure!!

August can be quite mild weather.

Travel Tips for Gold Coast

We tour the world's biggest...

by Adeline_Foo

We tour the world's biggest and best ginger factory. We learn some of the secrets that make Australian ginger the world's favourite. There was a demonstration where we can watch how the giner is being prepared for shipment around the globe.

THE GINGER FACTORY, there is this thing called Historic Cane Train that we can hop aboard for a ride through the lush native rainforest and landscaped gardens with informative commentary on ginger.

There is also The Ginger Shop where we bought our ginger products such as ginger sweets. I spend alot of time here selecting the sweets because there are so many of them! And of course, there is this place where we enjoyed our cool ice-cream.

SOVEREIGN ISLAND

by balhannah

This enclave of islands is surrounded on all sides by the Gold Coast’s Broadwater and beyond to the South Pacific Ocean and are only a short drive north of Surfers Paradise.

The prestigious island is made up of luxury homes with deepwater moorings and direct ocean access for the boating enthusiasts. Here you will see the most beautiful, expensive homes on the Gold Coast, and most probably, the biggest most expensive private Yachts and Boats.

At the moment, a $50million house is being built on a block of land that cost $4.2million, must go back to see the finished product!!

Nice for a drive around and browse.

Sovereign Islands are located toward the northern end of the Gold Coast and are connected to Paradise Point by bridge.

Surfers Paradise to Brisbane by Public Transport

by balhannah

To get from Surfers Paradise to Brisbane by Public transport, you need to catch a shuttle bus (Surfside busline, no 22) that takes you to Nerang Train Station.
From here, catch the train into Brisbane.

To go to the Brisbane Airports from the Gold Coast, check out the below timetable......

French Cuisine in the 'Burbs'

by grantravel about Garlic Clove

Garlic Clove is an French a la carte restaurant. Located in the middle of the suburban area of Carrara, it is a restaurant with a very good reputation. With good reason too, the meals are delicious and very well presented. Another great touch is the authentic French background music. For the best value for money, get the 3-course meal. For AU$36 you will get a wonderfully filling meal which includes a selection of entree, main and soup/dessert from the entire menu. You will save about AU$10 by doing this way.

Q1 wow it's tall!!

by traceandjase

So it's the tallest residental building or something like that. Well at least it is for the moment...
There's the observation deck that costs almost $20 to visit. So we passed on that tour.
But it does look impressive and I'm sure that the price would've have dropped by the time we get there again.
There is also a day spa and restaurant etc.
Would love to see what others think, we just didn't think the tour was worth that much.
