Just beautiful!

Ive just come back from a 2 night stay at the Marriott Surfers Paradise with my friend, and I must say we had an awesome time there. The whole experience started when we drove up to their entrance, the concierge staff were very welcoming, opening our car door and whisking our car away smoothly as valet should! They offered to take our bag, but we only had one small one so we said "no thanks" and we were then shown to the Reception. No waiting line at all, we were welcomed with a big smile, and to top it off, also were given a refreshing glass of Apple & Guava juice...yummy! The lobby is very big and decorated very nicely. You get a feeling of spaciousness and that holiday feel..."ahhh we've arrived..."
I had requested (late the night before via Fax!) for a high floor, and low and behold, thats what we got! Excellent. We stayed in Room 2810, we had the views of the ocean, the city and the hinterland, what more could you ask for!? The room was very spacious, and the king bed was just divine. It was one of the comfiest beds ive slept on. I could have layed on the bed all day it was that good!
There was plenty of cupboard space, in fact was a walk in robe almost. The bathroom was very large too, the amenties were good qualities also. There was ample lighting and mirrors in the entire room, and had a 2 chairs and a coffee table on the balcony as well.
We also had dinner at the famous "Benihana" Japanese Teppenyaki Restaurant. I reserved a table 2 weeks prior, as this place is very very popular and generally booked out. This restaurant is must but make sure you book beforehand. This also goes for the hotel restaurant in the lobby area, we went down at 8pm Saturday night hoping to squeeze in, but were told we couldnt get in til 9pm. No problem, we tried! But their buffet dinner looked yummy, so again, if you want to try, you should book just in case.
We did try the buffet brekkie on Sunday morning, oh yeah you could eat eat eat as much as you want, cost was $35 pp. They had great selections of hot and cold foods.
The Marriott also has an amazing pool area, we did go swimming but we walked around and had a look. Its the only hotel in the Gold Coast to have their own man-made beach with a waterfall. The grounds were immaculate and very tropical, it didnt seem fake at all. They also had additional "normal" swimming pools too just in case you dont like to salt water.
Overall I had a great time, I would expect nothing less then this from a 5 star hotel, and I am for sure going to be staying at this hotel on my next trip to the GC !

Despite showing some signs of getting a liitle tired, this hotel still is worth serious consideration when staying at the Gold Coast.
Staff were terrific, location is just a little out of the centre of Surfers paradise (not a bad thing), but views from rooms on the eastern side of the hotel are spectacular - ocean, lagoons, river, estuaries!!.Each room has a cosy but adequate balcony. valet parking for just $5 per day was most efficient and economical
Buffet breakfast was generous and comprehensive, and the location of the Lagoon restaurant most pleasant. Our one evening meal at the hotel was just OK (watch out for the quite low-cost wine buffet - its range of wines are all very low-cost and low quality. For a 5 star hotel, not good enough!!
Bathrooms were fine but the growth of mould in and around showers certainly needs attention. The king-sized beds were a feature.
Not that flash

Whilst the lobby of this hotel is lovely the rooms are very tired indeed - awful blue carpet, our wardrobe door handle kept falling off, the "cold" off the bathroom tap was missing and there was a lot of mould in the shower. OK for a 3 or even 4 star but def not what I would expect of a 5 star hotel. The food was very good and most of the staff very friendly but one or two that were not impressed by small children (they weren't impressed by them either!). The lagoon pool closed for two of the days we were there for renovations - perhaps they could have told us that first as it is one of the selling points as you get to swim with the fish. Would not bother staying there again - better 4 stars and cheaper accommodation around.
Great vacation!

We stayed at the Marriott Surfer's Paradise Resort from Sept 23-27, 2007
After spending 5 days at the Holiday Inn in Surfers Paradise which was very bland and unwelcoming, the Marriott was very refreshing.
You immedietely get a resort feel upon arrival. The lobby is spacious
and full of fresh flowers. The staff was very welcoming We stayed in an executive suite on the 19th floor - great views! My only complaint
was the tile in the bathroom/shower. Moldy and dated looking. Not what one would expect from a high end suite!
The pool/lagoon area was great. Our kids spent most of the time we were there swimming, snorkeling and going down the water slide. The pool bar waiters were very attentive and filled our food/drink orders quickly
Both the dinner and breakfast buffets were excellent, although pricey. We also ate at Benihana one evening - great food and entertaining chef
Overall, a great place to stay and relax in the gold coast
Very average

We stayed here for 6 nights from 22 September until 28 September in 3 rooms. The rooms were large but unfortunately the bathrooms were very tired. When we spent time by the pool, twice on different days our drinks and food did not arrive. There were not any pool staff walking the pool area so we had to go up to the cabana. The inside lobby was very dated and our overall expereince was not one that would warrant the A$310.00 a room a night. I would not stay here again.
