Day trip to Gold coast - with a toddler. Which are the places to be covered in a day?
by mogoel
Hi,
I am in brisbane for work and with my wife and a toddler. We would like to visit gold coast for a day (atleast for this time). Any suggestions on where should we go?
Is taking a rental car better or travelling by train? Which would be more comfortable and cheapest option?
Thanks much.

The train will be comfortable, cheap and quick- however a rental car will allow more flexibilty. Roads are good.
Your toddler will love Sea World.

There are just so many themeparks and attraction on Gold Coast. Plenty to choose from.

I would suggest a rental car as its easier to get around especially with a toddler. With the train, it is a very busy service in peak hours, standing room only, so that limits your time a bit, and you also have to transfer to the bus to get to Surfers Paradise, then more buses to go along the coast, and the Theme parks if you wish. I do not know where you come from, but if not from Australia and you want to interact with Australian animals, then head to Currumbin Wildlife sanctuary. Seaworld is good with plenty of sealife, and Polar bears, Dreamworld has Tigers, Movie World all types of Characters that children like walking around, and stunt shows.
Have a good time!

If you hire a car make sure you get a child seat because Australia has strict child restraint laws.
I agree Seaworld would be great for a toddler but also suggest as well the suggestion regarding the Currumbin bird park and wild life, this is very interactive for children and they can pat/feed a wallaby and other animals.

If you are staying on the North side of Brisbane you will most likely cross the Gateway Bridge(otherwise you will be finding your way through traffic). Not that the Gateway is traffic free but it is direct.
If so make sure the hire car company have made provision to pay the toll as there is no booth to pay the toll now.
Also plan your first stop and know the exit number from the motorway...probably you will have a navigator but it still is wise to know the exits.
Depends where you are from...it is not as easy to move around by public transport as in some countries but do keep in mind which side of the road you are used to.

Hi ,
Car will be the suitable option with a todler..1 day itinerary as per my suggestion:
leave early in the morning..before entering Gold Coast u will find Dreamworld on ur left and Movie world and wet n wild theme parks on ur right..wet n wild is good for todlers but try to be there at 10 am so u can spend hald day in wet wild and rest of the day in sea world try to be at seaworld by 2pm or u can do vice a versa but in that case u have to drive back to gold coast to spend the evening there.which ofcourse ur wife wants to.
after seaworld u can go to Orchad parade beach road.where all hussle bussle is.
Beach road is very close to Seaworld or you can go to Australia Fair or Pacific Fair.
Regards
Ali

Did you want to do things other than theme parks? Beach? The Spit for fish and chips? The Birds at Currumbin? Please post if you do for more details.

SANCTUARY COVE
by balhannah
Sanctuary Cove is situated close to South Stradbroke Island, Moreton Bay and Wavebreak Island.
It is well known for its world-class Marina with access for super-yachts. The marina has direct access to the Pacific Ocean via the protected waterways of the Gold Coast Broadwater.
The marina is the arena for the world-renowned Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show. I haven't been to the show, but my husband has, he has an interest in boats, and thoroughly enjoyed the show.
It is held in 20–23 May 2010.....Open 9am to 5pm daily
So, if you are a Boat lover, then come to the show, it is held yearly.
We also come here just to stroll around at look at the 90 specialty shops. You must try an Ice-cream from the Ice-cream/lolly shop, very nice!!!
Outdoor dining, with lovely views over the harbour is real nice too, and prices aren't bad.
A roast beef lunch with Yorkshire pudding and vegetables was $17.95. [2010]
There is a real nice ambience, with pleasant music to listen to.
LOCATION......
By car - Exit 57 both north and south direction on the M1.
By bus - Surfside Buslines operate regular services to Sanctuary Cove from major Gold Coast points
Located the northern end of the Gold coast
The gold coast airport acually...
by mocca
The gold coast airport acually is in NSW, but that can be overlooked, you can also take the bus or train there.
Take the bus, they go very frequently, or if you are staying close to the centre, just walk.
Australian Outback Spectacular
by grantravel
As a local and my family is from the outback, I have seen this show and believe it is well worth your while to check it out. It's a one of a kind extravaganza of a one and a half hour action packed outback show featuring wild horses, stampeding cattle, an array of bush vehicles and an unforgettable display of horsemanship. As well as a 3 course Aussie BBQ dinner, you also receive as part of the entry ticket, all you can drink beer, wine or soft drink during the show as well as a free Stockmen’s hat!
The show runs nightly, from Tuesday to Sunday, inside a giant 1000 seat enclosed arena.
