Storm Damage to Gold Coast (especially Surfers Paradise)?

by picknick

Hi,
I am about to leave for my holiday to the Gold Coast in 2 weeks. Any information about the situation in Surfers Paradise and surroundings?

I am also travelling to Cairns, is it affected by the storm?

G'day Nick,
Most of the severe damage was confined to an area of suburban Brisbane. From what I understand the Gold Coast got hit with high winds & heavy rain but escaped relatively unscathed. I think the storm missed Cairns completely.
Hope this helps
Regards John.

Cairns wasn't effected by any storms in Brisbane, we are a long way from Brisbane:)
But here in Cairns we have had some rain and overcast skies over the last 2 days. It's hot and humid. You may get rain when you arrive here as it is the start to the wet season OR the weather gods could be in a happy frame of mind and give you bright blue skies with no rain at all.At this time of year those weather gods are a confused lot:)

The Brisbane Courier Mail has some amazing photographs of the storm and the damage it caused. www.news.com.au/couriermail/

Nick, were you the person that asked about white water rafting in Cairns?
If so, we have had a lot if rain over the last few days, I have a feeling if we get a few more showers the white water rafting on the Barron could be good.

Surfer's paradise

by qiuxy

I made decision to visit golden coast in a rush way, coz my flatmate was told to work over there on X'mas 2003. I didn't want to be alone at Sydney, so I taged along with her there for an almost free vocation. This is the 'surfer's paradise' beach where we spent in the first day afternoon. It may be the longest beach in Australia which is so incredible.

Mambo Italiano!

by goldcoaster about Joey's Pizza and Ribs

What I love about this place, aside from the excellent food, is the fact it is a genuine family run restaurant. Josie and Phil, and their two sons and their girlfriends, do all the cooking and service duties. What this gives a real commitment to quality, it is their livelihood after all. Personally, I'm a big sucker for a Joey's special pizza. I only ever order a small and can never finish it. The ribs are also fantastic. Try a veal scallopini for one of the best mushroom sauces going.

REPTILE & ANIMAL SHOW AT CURRUMBIN

by balhannah

Included in the admission price at the Currumbin Wildlife sanctuary is the 'TOTALLY WILD AND SNAKES ALIVE SHOW" and the 'FREE FLIGHT BIRD SHOW"

We went to the "totally wild" show, which started off by meeting a Dingo and learning some info on him. Then a King Brown snake was brought out (venomous) and the Black Headed Python (non-venomous)

A beautiful golden Possum which is native to Tasmania and is very rare was a part of the show.

Audience participation was with a Tawny Frogmouth bird. These are often called owls, but are more closely related to Nightjars than Owls. They picked a child from the audience to try and find him, then gave him a dead mouse to feed the Owl with!

At the end of the show, you could have your photo taken with EITHER THE POSSUM OR THE BLACK HEADED PYTHON.

The professional photographer took a photo ($ if you buy) or....
you could take your own photos for FREE.

SHOWTIMES ARE.....10.30am & 1pm. for the totally wild show.

Included in the admission price to the sanctuary.

Open 8 - 5 pm daily
Free flight bird shows are at 11.30am & 2 pm
