Gold coast for christmas??

by kittycatclare

Hi

I'm going to be spending christmas at Gold Coast probably, I'm a backpacker from England, and was wondering which is the better option to stay - Coolangatta or Surfer's Paradise or not on Surfer's itself but Southport. I don't want somewhere that is quiet as I will be away from all of my family for the first time ever - can anyone recommend anywhere? I'm also on a pretty tight budget so if anyone can recommend any other cheaper areas for the festive period I am open to suggestion...

Thanks

Cat xx

Surfers is always busy and fun at Christmas but Coolangatta is now getting a good rap and has improved with lots of things to do. Surfers however has a lot more going for it with nightclubs and nice hangouts.

Staying at Coolangatta is generally cheaper than Surfers but then I think Southport will be a bit cheaper too and it's a short bus ride into Surfers.

I live near Coolangatta but think I would recommend the north end for you - plenty of backpackers, great beaches and it will be buzzing. You are also closer to all of the theme parks if you want to go to any of them.

Hi Cat,

Surfers Paradise is the most happening place of GC..and offcousre accomodation cost is much higher than other suburbs..Collangata is bit away from Surfers but u can try Southport which has an easy access to Sufers 24 hrs..u can find economical backpackers hostels in South port..Dec 3rd week till the end of Jan is most busiest and high peak period.
if interested u can find work easily during Christamas week specially in Theme parks where you an work during day time and at your own in evening.

Travel Tips for Gold Coast

If you like the sun, surf and...

by hayley_69

If you like the sun, surf and sand, unpolluted air and a relaxed lifestyle, with heaps of Tourist attractions thrown in, then you'll love the Gold Coast of Australia.
The Gold Coast area is jam-packed with attractions for the Tourist whether as a Family, Single or Honeymooners. In fact the Gold Coast is the Theme Park Capital of the southern hemisphere.
You can enjoy everything from the latest rides and special effects to aquatic wonders or even feeding our native wildlife in natural surroundings.
At night the Gold Coast comes alive and visitors can take in one of the many shows or live it up at one of the nightclubs or discos.
The spectacular coastal region stretching from South Stradbroke Island to Coolangatta/Tweed is a beach and blue water wonderland with clean, clear waters and 42 kilometres of golden sandy beaches.
The Gold Coast is well endowed with sumptuous restaurants of all kinds, from Smorgasbords, Seafood Restaurants, General, Steakhouses, Asian Restaurants, Italian Restaurants, Mexican Restaurants, Food Courts and to Theatre Restaurants. The best of the Gold Coast is the nice and clean beaches, sunny weather in summer and the fact that is doesnt snow in winter which is good, the theme parks, and nice friendly people you meet on the way.

Natural Arch - A Gold Coast Beauty On Its Own

by MissBianca

If you feel like escaping the hustle and bustle of the Gold Coast for day, I suggest renting a car and discovering South East Queensland for yourself. One thing the tourists always seem to miss are the real beauties the Gold Coast has to offer besides the sun, surf and sand.

One place I definitely recommend taking a day trip to is Natural Arch which is only 40 minutes drive from the Gold Coast. Also known as Natural Bridge, this place is a subtropical rainforest nestled within the scenic Numinbah Valley. As one of my all time favourite places to go, Natural Bridge has more then just greeny surroundings on offer. Get in and discover the ancient rock formations, rock waterfalls, the vast range of flora and fauna and the infamous glow worms which light up the caves in which they hide in.

If you do get a chance to get out here I suggest bringing something warm to throw on as it is usually refreshingly cooler then the coastal areas during the day.

If you do fall in love with this place as much as I do, consider coming at night. With the bright glow worms to light up the darkened sky this place is much alive at night as it is during the day.

If you have the chance to make a day of it, why not bring along a picnic or try the local Natural Arch Cafe.

Natural Arch Cafe details are as follows:
Nerang-Murwillumbah Road
Natural Bridge QLD 4213
Australia
PH: +61 (07) 5533-6140

Natural Bridge is located on the Nerang-Murwillumbah Road, about four kilometres north of the border gate. From the Pacific Highway, you can turn off at Nerang (30 kilometres to the park) or at Mudgeeraba (42 kilometres to the park via Springbrook plateau). The scenic access roads are winding and should be travelled with care. Mini-bus tours run to the park from the Gold Coast and Murwillumbah.

Jupiters Casino !

by grantravel about Conrad Hotel / Casino.

Although I have put the Casino in as one of the nightlife tips, like all casinos it is open for business 24 hours/7 days a week, but it is at night when Jupiters comes to life.

Jupiters Casino is the only licensed casino on the Gold Coast and is a resort casino with a host of facilities from gambling rooms to entertainment, leisure and fine dining. Your overall appearance must be neat, clean and tidy. Jeans, dress shorts, sandals and deck shoes are allowed, however marked or torn jeans will not be permitted. Sportswear, singlets, tracksuits, beachwear, work boots and thongs are not permitted at any time.

Fabulous views over the valley

by robertgaz about Mountain Cafe and Gifts

High up in Lamington National Park at O'Reilly's Guesthouse you can enjoy a meal with drinks with fabulous views over the valley at the Mountain Cafe and Gifts.

So after exploring the forest paths around the Tree Top Walk come and refresh yourself here.

They offer a delicious menu of homestyle meals with drinks and there is also a takeaway section for quick snacks.

Once you order your meal at the counter you are given a pager which sends you an alert when your order is ready to be collected. I enjoyed turkey and bacon on toasted focaccia (AU$7.50) with a long strong black coffee (AU$3.00).

At least take a chair on the big outside balcony with a hot coffee or glass of wine and gaze at the magnificent views!
