by ggquincy
Hi,
We have been searching for affordable seld catering apartments on the Gold Coast. I found the Crystal Beach Holiday Apartments in Tungan.
Can anyone offer so insight to what these are like and what the area is like, We are a family with 2 children aged 11 and 7
Thanks

I drove past these units this morning and from the outside they look great. They are in a nice area, but the problem is that they are not really near sights you may want to see - except Cumrrumbin Sanctuary. There are patrolled beaches not too far away.
Coolangatta is about 5K's down the road and Surfers Paradise about 18K's north. The theme parks are all a good 40 mins away, SeaWorld a bit less. If you are driving this wouldn't be too much of a problem.
There is good public transport from this area and of course you could book all tours from here as well - lots of places include pick-ups.

Tugan Beach is lovely. As the other poster said, it is close to Currumbin Bird Sanctuary which is a definate must see with kids. Coolangatta is close by and Twin Towns club good for a cheap meal. Looks like the place you have chosen is close by to the place I'm going to recommend -

We used to stay there when my parents visited from Sydney :o) ...Loved it!
Transport is good....bus outside the front door....plus Tugan is close to the airport so easy & cheap to get to.
Good choice!!
Cheers, Ann :o)

I guess the question you need to ask yourself is what do you plan to do whilst on the gold coast? If you plan to spend most of your time at theme parks (seaworld, wet n wild, dreamworld, movieworld etc) or in the areas surrounding surfers paradise, then I wouldn't recommend staying at those apartments as they are quite a bit out of the way. They are undoubtable in a beautiful area and are close to currumbin sanctuary however they are not close to the usual tourist attractions.
If you want apartments closer to the action I would recommend Mantra Sun City. You can get decent priced apartments in this high rise, and the resort is child friendly - it has its own pool with water slides etc.
Travel Tips for Gold Coast
O'Reilly's Guesthouse - Parrot Feeding
by ATXtraveler
While on a trip out to O'Reilly's Guesthouse from the Gold Coast, we saw some beautiful parrots in the semi-wild. What I mean by that is that they were actually in a tree outside the guesthouse, able to fly away, but were drawn in by all the tourists feeding them.
There was a circular path around the tree, and bird feed was available to feed them. If you put a little seed in your hair, the birds would actually land on your head and eat it out! Quite fun....
It is the Gold Coast, so...

It is the Gold Coast, so culture is far away, or you are interested in the Ripley's Believe it or Not museum.
But if you ar around october, stay for the Indy car races, it is something not to be missed once in your live.
PANORAMA DRIVE
by balhannah
This tip is for all those people that have a Hire Car.
Panorama Drive is just that, it is up a very steep hill where some Mansions are located. At the top, it levels, and here you get the most wonderful views of the Gold Coast.
Also, a no through road off Panorama drive, affords you very good views of the Hinze Dam.
To find Panorama Drive.......
On the Pacific highway, take the turnoff to Mudgeeraba and follow Mudgeeraba road until you reach Worongary (Advancetown) road. When you reach the Tallai country club, take the Panorama road turnoff to the left.
When travelling from south by car
by aussirose
When travelling by road from south take the turning at Mooball (Warning, locals pronounce it 'Moble') and go the coast road. You bypass Murwillumbah and it takes 20min off your journey. Plus it's more scenic. You come out at Kingscliff. If travellin' by plane Coolangatta airport is very accessable to all of Gold Coast.
The bus service is very good as well.
Theme Park Number 2 - White Water World.
by hayley_69
White Water World is the newest theme park to hit the Gold Coast, it is from the makers of Dreamworld and is situated right next door to Dreamworld, just opened about 3 months ago.
This water park is made for the whole family not just the older kids!!!
Water Rides they have are:
The Bro
The Green Room
The Rip
The Temple Of Huey
Cave Of Waves
Nickelodeon Pipline Plunge
Wiggle Water Bay
Super Tubes Hydrocoaster
White Water World is open every day of the year, except Christmas Day and Anzac morning (25 April).
Hours open are 10:30am to 4:30pm every day of the year. Hours may be extended during Summer and frequently in Autumn and Spring, and during school holiday periods.
White Water World has a number of burger joints in the water park plus drink stands and retail shops to buy some souvenirs.
They have a number of facilities from ATM's to Lockers also a number of services to help you round the water world.
You can also get a day pass or yearly pass for the both worlds Dreamworld and Whitewater World, unlimited access, for usually a great discounted price.
Also medical and cultural information is provided.
