Christmas On The Gold Coast

by normg

Is there much too do on christmas day on the gold coast.

Re: Christmas On The Gold Coast

Pretty much it doesn't shut, so yeah there are things to do on the goldie on xmas day. Personally I would head inland and enjoy the hinterland and a nice B&B for about the same price as the golide and leave the crowds of locals to themselves:)

christmas day on the coast is all about beer, beaches and barbecues. make sure you get to the public barbecues dotting the beaches early because many people will have this idea in mind, it's an aussie tradition.
good luck.

Travel Tips for Gold Coast

Visit the Great Barrier Reef,...

by Miles_Togo

Visit the Great Barrier Reef, even if you don't dive, get out to snorkle it. The touristy 'sardine can boats' are a drag, but they can get you there, and CAN'T take anything away from the beauty of the reef once you are underwater!

Gold Coast - June Packing List

by ATXtraveler

Sarah and I packed a single bag, which I would advise against. Pack one bag per person, and for ease, if you are there for a long weekend, keep it under 7kgs so that you can carry on. We ran into alot of trouble with this at the Brisbane Airport. Bring one good pair of walking shoes, as there is so much to experience. Also, bring a sand slipper or flip flop for beach activities. Readily available here, don't waste too much valuable space. Invest in at least a 512MB card, there is plenty to take photos of. In June, I was very comfortable with shorts and polo shirts or t-shirts, but at night it was just cold enough for a light pullover.

Sensory Overload!

by Jez79

If you're in Surfer's Paradise and you'd like to try something different, check out 'Infinity'. Located in the Chevron Renaissance Centre, on the corner of Surfers Paradise Blvd. (Gold Coast Hwy) and Elkhorn Ave, Infinity is a maze-like experience full of lights, sounds and tactile delights. The experience takes about half an hour (or longer if you like). Basically, you get some glow-in-the-dakr white booties and gloves, enter the start of the maze, and work your way through a series of different rooms, hallways and mazes. If it's dark, you can use your hands to guide the way. Infinity is a lot of fun, and certainly something different to check out. If you're claustrophocic, sensitive to flashing lights, or don't like the dark, Infinity probably isn't for you.

Getting There and Around

by keeweechic

By Air : The Domestic airport is at Coolangatta, at the southern end of the Gold Coast and services flights from major Australian cities and regional centres. International flights arrive at Brisbane Airport and there is a coach transfer or taxi's that will take you to your Gold Coast accommodation.

By Rail : A suburban rail service runs from downtown Brisbane through Helensvale and Beenleigh to the Gold Coast. You can then catch a coach from the Roma St Transit Centre in Brisbane to the Gold Coast. There is a direct overnight train from Sydney to Murwillumbah and then you can catch a coach to any major centre on the Gold Coast. Daily interstate coach services arrive and depart from the Surfers Paradise Bus Station

By Bus : If you are not driving yourself, there are buses which operate a 24 hr service along the highway. There is a surfside bus which runs Monday to Saturday from 6.00am – 7.00pm.

Monorail runs from The Oasis Shopping Centre to The Casino at Broadbeach.

Pedicab : This service is fairly inexpensive and operates mainly around Surfers.

Theme Parks

by ciaobella55

Don't miss the theme parks, there's something for everyone. My favourite is SeaWorld, because I just love the polar bears.
they have lots of rides, water ski and stunt shows, huge waterslides, educational stuff too.
Perfect for all ages
