see the GOLD COAST BEACHES, with their glistening white sands and great surf. Most are life-guard patroled between the flagged areas during the Summer holiday period thus providing a more relaxed swim [although care should still be taken as we do have rips up and down the coast] Queensland's east coast is approx. 1 hours drive south-east of Brisbane.
Having lived on the coast for the past 20 years, I can thoroughly recommend it as a premier holiday destination. For those interested in water-sports, ie surfing, swimming, sailing, fishing, etc.you will find you are well catered for with a myriad of fine sandy beaches, hire boats, canal cruises etc to choose from. Most people who come here also visit our 'Theme Parks' namely Dream World, Sea World, Warner Brothers Studio, Wet & Wild or Currumbin Bird Sanctuary, all within easy reach of 'Surfers Paradise' the main tourist center. If you are looking for peace and solitude, then a drive up through the Hinterland to Springbrook for bush walking and coastal views or O'reily's mountain retreat where you can hand feed the Crimson Rozellas and King Parrots, a day trip, or for bushwalking, accommodation is available on the mountain.

For a memorable...

For a memorable not-to-be-missed opportunity to view Australian wild life in their natural habitat, go visit the LONE PINE SANCTUARY.... in Brisbane. Don't panic.... yet. Brisbane is really not that far away from the Gold Coast. A shuttle bus ride can solve all your problems. Alternatively, you can hire a car.
Well, let me just share what little I know about this lovely sanctuary. Located at Fig Tree Pocket in a bush land area of approximately 60 acres, the Lone Pine Sanctuary boasts of the largest population of captive bred Koalas (130... if I heard correctly) in Australia. Through the work of the sanctuary, much has been accomplished for the Koalas in Brisbane and the greater Queensland area, including bans on hunting and extensive research into the feeding, mating and breeding aspects of the Queensland Koala population. You see, I'm a Koala lover in real life. :-)
For a small sum of A$13.00, visitors can have their photograph taken, holding a Koala in their arms. An extra A$8.80 gives the visitor an email disk with photos stored in gif or jpg format. Alternately, a short film in mpeg format is available. Don't worry, nobody laughed at my best friend and I when we did all of the above! :-)
Here's their official website: LONE PINE SANCTUARY (Brisbane)

by Jez79 about Joes Restaurant
Jo's is located upstairs in the Oasis shopping complex in Broadbeach. It's set out with tables and chairs, a bar and a number of different food outlets. You pick a table, order your food at one of the counters and it's bought to your table. There is a great variety of food, including italian, chinese, steak and seafod, roasts and dessert. The restaurant is usually busy and it's not a quiet, romantic getaway, but it's a great place to go with a group of friends. the meals range from A$5 to A$30, dependign what yuo get. Drinks are extra. Barramundi with vegetables - the potato bake is delicious and the fish is as fresh as it gets.
