Moving to Aus....

by pringrin

Hey Everyone,

I am really interested in moving to Aus at the end of may. I haven't booked anything yet as I want as much info as possible, although I did various online checks to ensure I was eligible for a visa, which I am. Anyway- I was wanting to know how much money do you think I will need to bring over? I will be needing to find a place to stay (pretty cheap, nothing luxury) and looking for a job asap. I have a rough estimation but I wanted to get info from people who may have done this or who are living in Aus.

Thanks for your help xxx

As yoú've not booked anything, for the flight have a look at AirAsia.com ,they have flights from London to Kuala Lumpur and from Kuala Lumpur to Gold Coast at very competive price especially one-way ones.
For other requests do not worry, every day many VT from Oz come here and they will tell you better then I could.

Seeing your question is under Gold Coast, are you thinking of settling there? It is more expensive for living. A way to save, is to share accommodation with others, this cuts the cost down greatly. Jobs are very hard to get at the moment because of the financial downturn.

What sort of job will you be looking for? You should be able to get something in hopitality, for example, waiting tables or tending bar. You will have to have a certain amount of money with you (or at least access to sufficient funds) to comply with immigration regulations. They will need to know that you have enough to get set up and to sustain you until you get work, which as Dee has explained, is not necessarily easy to do at the present time. I would think that especially on the Gold Coast, you will be able to find work in a Hotel, restaurant, cafe or club in a reasonable space of time. Rents and the cost of living is definitely more expensive on the Gold Coast than in Brisbane.

yes, agree, hospitality would be your best bet, often they like backpackers, tourists for this kind of work.

Well good luck with that major move....d:o)

A good idea would be to explore some expat websites. Quite a few of them around. Get on their forums and talk to some of the people that have done this already. They will really give you all the ins and outs of such a move. Here are a few sites for you to explore. The British are especially good at this:

And finally, before you conquer the Gold Coast learn some Aussie slangs first! Why do I recommend that you learn some important phrases?? So that you won't appear like some country bumpkin in front of these Aussies!! That's why!
