Great Keppel Island Holiday Village
The quiet alternative
This place was just great. Full of atmosphere, just off the main beaches of GKI, cheap and really nice. There was a veriety of people staying there, from the long termers who work and stay for free, to backpackers, couples and families. There is a mixture of accommodation, including dorms ($24/night) to tents, doubls rooms, cabins and two fully furnished houses. The cost varies depending on the accommodation. There is a fantastic communal kitchen, heaps of space to eat or sit around, hammocks, lovely gardens, a small shop, tours, games, reading material, snorkel and kayak hire and it's very close to the beach! It's also only a short walk to some of the stores and restaurants on the island, and Keppel Haven, the YHA tent villagge and the Contiki resort are also in the area. Best of all, the people who run it are lovely and the place has a great communal atmosphere. Another bonus is that you can do a few hours of cleaning and stay there for free.
Unique Quality: The Holiday Village is marketed as "the quiet alternative", and the lights go out at 10:30pm. Everyone is very laid back, so it's a great place to relax and chill out. If you want to party, there are a number of bars to go to further down the beach. We had a bonfire on the beach a couple of nights, sat around with a few beers, which was great. The possibilities are endless, and I highly recomment it.
Directions: Beside Keppel Haven, just off Fisherman's and Putney beach.
