moving

by zaymaykai

Hi we are wanting to move to hervey bay in the new year, we have 3 children under 7 and were wondering what the town has to offer growing familys. we will be moving from cains so it a big move and dont want to making a big mistake. what type so shopping centres are there and is there a bmx club, if any could tell us anything it would be great as the webs sites are all aimed at visiters not locals and i know that living in a place is very different to a 5 night stay. thanks for any help

Hi I moved to hervey bay 3 years ago with 4 kids and one on the way. The town is fantastic. It is designed very well, all flat great riding paths 14km that circle the whole town and go to all schools and shops. Development is huge here at the moment. We have new shopping centres going up constantly and as i am from sydney i freaked about lack of shops to start with but it is getting really built up now. Three shopping centres are being built now. I can't recommned the schools enough i have one in high school, two in primary, two in childcare and I go to uni,so I have learn't a bit about the place. There is a lot of construction work here and plenty of people have moved here to start a new.Biggest age group here is 25-50 with families. We are very community based lots of free fairs and shows through the year and as everyone is so close to the beach(no stingers)BBQ and walk home. life is just awesome. Hey it can be scary moving somewhere new, but everyone I know is new here. we are a very friendly bunch ,good luck need more info let me know

Ok, the town is dead for night life, seven nightclub is a dump but some of the pubs around are good if thats what your into. Raising kids here is good cos there isn't much trouble for them to get into' no gangs/cribs/firms. urangan high is the best public high school around, achieving better average OP's than any private school around. Kawungan and sandy Straits are the two best primary schools around, i wouldnt bother with private primarys here, their teachers are unqualified. University of Southern Queensland has a campuss here and has a huge population of students. the shopping is very average ath the moment but is being improved with the present construction of Kmart and BigW and some new superstore/plaza that is looking to be huge.
No BMX club altough there is a world class scate park here. motorbike racing is a big sceen here

hi my name is sydney, i am a young mum and have a 5 yr old. i lived in hervey bay for nearly 3 yrs only to find it was not a family orientated town, if ur single, young and dont have kids or at the age of retirement it is the perfect place for you but it has a high rate of early school leavers, unemployment and petty crime. i didnt want 2 bring my child up here so i moved back 2 victoria.

Travel Tips for Hervey Bay

Kangaroos on the Beach

by herveygirl

You will need a acar a 4wd even better. Its Woodgate a little beach town nestled between Hervey bay and Bundaberg. You can drive down with 4wd and camp on the beach there are kangaroos around and other Aussie marsupials. Look out for the Dugong if you are real lucky when swimming but don't get to close they are protected. Woodgate has pristine beach and national park walkers paradise. Take provisions for camping and a mobile phone check for coverage. Amazing array of beautiful flowers and wildlife. Quiet, laid back and peaceful.

Green Frog Madness..

by Sweetberry1

Well, I am not sure this is really a 'Must See Activity'.. I mean, what are the chances of coming across something like this in your travels. lol..
But, chances are you could see this in Hervey Bay, as we have a good population of green frogs here.. and that has to be a good sign.
When I found this adorable couple on my front porch, I just knew I had to share it with you all.. There was no way this little guy was going to let go.. ;-)
