A short ride across the bay, on a barge or catamaran, will have you on one of our loveliest Islands. Frazer Island is the largest sand Island in the world, and has some very unique things to do and see.
You can go on safaris, tours, camping, or stay at one of the beautiful resorts.
There are rainforests, lakes, surf, and where else can you have a Runway, a Highway and a beach, all on the same strip of sand.. it would help however, if you all kept a very close eye on the tides.. lol.. but then again, if you are into a bit of excitement.. I wouldn't let the incoming tides worry you too much.. They do go out again, eventually... ;-)

You can also hire a 4 Wheel Drive in Hervey Bay, take it across on the barge with you, and do some exploring of your own.
Camping on the Island is allowed, but you need a permit.

Though I lived in nearby Maryborough for my first 17 years, before shifting permanently to Brisbane, I had never seen the whales at Hervey Bay. But then back in the 60,s,nobody else had either.
On a Dec2003 trip to India I took a boat trip down the Mondavi River to see the dolphins.Nice day, but perhaps I should see the whales at home.
