Very tropical very peaceful.

I haven't stayed here but friends have and they enjoyed their stay.

Unique Quality: The accomodation comes in the form of bungalows set amongst 10 acres of tropical landscaped gardens.

It has two pools, a tennis court, a spa and gym, playground, bar and restaurant etc.

The beach is a short walk away...less than 100 metres.

Hotel at Shoal Point

The Allure Resort is a set of one bedroom bungalows, set amongst a tropical garden, on the beach at Shoal Point.

The bungalows have a lounge with TV and DVD player, and have Pay TV (Austar) supplied free. DVDs may also be hired. There is a small kitchen with stove, microwave, bar fridge, and sink .

Each bungalow is air-conditioned with a small unit in the kitchen. In mine this worked effectively (in the middle of February, where air-conditioning is essential in Mackay), although not being a split system it generated a bit of noise. Due to its position in the kitchen, it wasn't too noisy to sleep, but blew an icy gale on you if you were trying to do something in the kitchen.

Each bungalow has a small outside patio with table and chairs. A sail partially covers the patio.

The garden and pool settings at Allure are very good. There are 3 pools and a spa, although the spa wasn't working when I was there.

Other facilities are fairly modest. There is a casual restaurant, open only at night, and the food is ok. It has a very limited wine list, but a nice outdoor area looking out to the sea. There is also a more formal restaurant, but it seems to only be opened for conferences and receptions.

The availability of meals is a bit odd. I was unable to get a meal one night, as the casual restaurant had been booked for a birthday party. The other restaurant was opened that night, but only to serve drinks !

You can also organise a DIY breakfast, with choices of tinned spaghetti or baked beans, cereal, or toast and jam / vegemite. It is delivered the night before.

Other services are limited. The Reception closes overnight, the rooms aren't serviced ( I guess they will be if you stay there long enough, but I stayed 4 nights, and there was no change of sheets or towels), and there's no newspapers.

Unique Quality: The pool complex is great. It's in a garden setting, with the pools joined by rockfalls. A small fountain is set in the centre of one pool.

Set on the beach, the outlook is nice (but mainly obscured by trees).

The Allure would be good for families or couples looking for a quiet holiday (and with a car). While the garden and pool settings are very good, it doesn't have any of the services / activities that you would normally associate with a resort.
