Mind The Sun and the Jellyfish and Rips
A bright colourful beach bag ,waterproofed on the inside, to make a "splash" on the beach. Then one for shopping as we are trying to discourage plastic . Be careful on the rocks or near oyster beds ..can be slippery and oysters can be sharp. Once in a while there will be a "nasty" in the rock pools...a blue ringed octopus for example. Remember too the sun can burn the tops of your feet.
Sometimes we get heavy rain and storms , especially in summer...so a raincoat. And it can be cool especially in air con. Mostly the beach goers dress in light , cool gear but be warned our sun will burn. So protect yourself. Don't forget a hat! Sun glasses and hats will also help protect you in the Spring from the birds who dive bomb to protect their nests. And you will need your swimsuit of course. Basic first aid is a must but then I am a nurse. Something to treat bites and stings. Sandflies can be a problem for overseas visitors and they make you itch. There are doctors and chemists readily available but if you are from another country follow the usual safeguards if you are on prescription drugs.Be aware there are ticks in rain forest areas which can kill small children and animals.
Do not drink/drug and drive. Surf only on patrolled beaches and swim between the flags....check the safe flag colours.
Rips can be very dangerous..ask especially if you are not an experienced swimmer.
Mind the jellyfish. There are deadly ones only they are usually further north.
Road rules apply when driving on the beach in a 4WD of course. Keep your valuables safe. Sand is a problem it gets in everything and thieves are around on the beautiful beaches...worse luck.
Do not stay out in the sun too long.
And never dive into water till you make sure the water is deep enough.
