visiting Noosa and needed advise!

by JenTan

hi i am planning a family holiday to Noosa from Brisbane airport for 2 days and would like to go for the camel ride and visit a few places like Glass House Mountain, Big Pineapple, Ginger factory, beach....not sure is there any other places that is suitable for family. Does anyone know any tour that cater for the above places and need advise on the accommodation: perfer B&B motel, price around AU$150 per night. thanks!

You'd be much better off hiring a car from the airport and self driving for that sort of holiday. Other places to visit are Maleny and Eumundi markets (Sat and Wednesday). Underwater World at Mooloolaba and Australia Zoo are great places to take kids, and there's a deer sanctuary and a bee farm on the way up to the coast The Ettamoggah Pub is also another place for kids to enjoy. Not sure how many people in family, and whether you have children, and what your accommodation expectations are. If you don't want to stay on the beach, which would not be possible with the budget you mention, there are motels within this financial range, especially around Mooloolaba.

hi, thanks for you reply and advise on Noosa tour. i have 2 children (age: 6 & 10), that's total 4 of us. We have not tried driving in Australia, is it easy? I had read from travel guide that there are some rules for self-drive in Australia. I am afraid to get lost along the way- not so good at maps.

Brisbane airport is on the northern side of Brisbane, and very close to the motorway to the Sunshine Coast, where you wish to go. Its easy.

Check this site: www.planet.aus.com.au - you can drive here if you have an international drivers licence - for the same class of vehicle. I really think it would be the best way to get around for you. Kids would undoubtedly prefer Australia Zoo and Underwater World to the ginger factor, in terms of what there is do do and see there. The Big Pineapple is a good place for kids - animal farm, train ride, wonderful icecream parfaits! and a generally nice tourist stop. The Ettamogah Pub has the built pub there, but also now has a sort of a ride park for kids. These places are all either on the motorway to the coast, or extremely well signed.

Look for the brown signs, which list tourist places - and you can't really miss them for the major places. Australia Zoo is the most off the motorway place, but extrememly well signed, and you drive through back onto the motorway. This is the Steve Irwin zoo, which has become much discussed in the media since his death. It is also a great place to visit. Underwater World is great also for getting up close to the walk through acquarium and see the sharks and other big fish and rays etc. from our reef.

Camel rides are available on the northern beach of Noosa heads.

If you stay outside Noosa, accommodaton will be cheaper. If you want to go all the way up to Noosa, try Tewantin and Noosaville - or, as I suggested, try Mooloolaba, or even Caloundra or Maroochydore for cheaper places to stay. Noosa Heads will be the most expensive.

The Glasshouse Mountains are nice to see - drive by - but I am gathering that the children would be too young for hiking there.

Good luck with planning, and keep posting if you have any more questions.

Travel Tips for Noosa Heads

Cooroy Orchid Show

by Mikebb

We visited the small town of Cooroy located inland approximately a 20 minute drive from Noosa Heads. It was a nice clean town but the purpose of our visit was to view the Cooroy Orchid Society's annual Spring Show. We were surprised when we went into the hall, orchids in bloom were everywhere and the quality was a good as any of the big city shows. Well worth the drive and we then continued on to the Eumundi Markets , a further 15 minute drive down the road.

I must be in Queensland

by iandsmith

This house, a little on the grandiose side of normal, is built in a style called "Queenslander". This entails having your house above ground level to some degree to allow for airflow beneath the house and a verandah, not only to sit on but also to shield the house from much of the sun's burning rays, both traits beneficial in a noted sunny state such as Queensland.
This one is located next door to the Tree Frog Gallery shown in the previous picture
