We stayed at Adder Rock, at the Manta Badkpackers Lodge, an accredited scuba dive centre and above average Backpackers, in a 4 share room. They do have double beds here, but bathroom is all shared in a common area. As we had a child staying with us, they could not allocate the spare bed to a stranger so we spread out a little. Rooms are very inexpensive around $30 p.p.
This backpackers is a pleasant stay for anyone, including families and is right on the beach. Step outside and you get sand under your feet!
Excellent amenites included: hammocks, (where a foreign tourist was found catching up on some zzzz's and could not be roused), BBQ's, Pool table and ping pong table, TV's and DVD's and well equipped kitchen, lounge. This backpacker is in an excellent location: step outside and you are on the beach, also reasonably close to Point Lookout by road, but we chose to walk along the beach for the scenic journey over the rocks and beach verges.
Whalewatchers Resort is a nice place to stay on Stradbroke Island. It's fairly expensive but it is very nice and well kept. It's close to the beach (gorgeous Main Beach) and is close enough to some cafes etc too.
They have a pool, games room, gym, ocean views etc. The rooms are well stocked with kitchen facilities and the bedrooms are very big. Our "ocean view" room had a full kitchen, laundry and 2 bathrooms (we stayed with family)...we also had 2 big balconies with views of the ocean/beach.
There are literally hundreds of holiday homes you can rent for your stay. Most of them are fitted with everything you need for a comfortable stay.
