More about Nautilus Holiday Apartments
Just what we wanted and excellent value
We stayed here for 10 nights for a family break with our 10 month old son. It was just what we were looking for. There was plenty of space in our well equipped apartment with full kitchen, full size fridge/freezer and our own laundry with dryer. Our son was crawling and found plenty of room to explore with only minor safety issues that we were able to protect him from by moving a coffee table or the like.
It was walking distance to beach, town and the marina, although you would not want to be carrying a heap of groceries from the supermarket in the heat. We found it fairly easy to walk up to town mosts days and buy small amounts. We did not need a car.
Ange and Matt were great hosts and ready to help at anytime.
no wonder it is number one
The moment you walk through the door, you know you have made the right decision.High quality modern apartments with so much space, and everything you need including your own washer and dryer. We made good use of them! Do bear in mind that the Nautilus is not a resort,so all you get is the apartment,a parking space, and a small pool. Our apartment was on the second floor. Since there are no lifts you may wish to ask for a lower floor. Also as with so many beaches at certain times of the year ,you can only swim in a protected area because of stinging jelly fish. That means that the 4 mile Port Douglas beach is safe for swimming in only 100metres.The other thing to remember is that it rains a lot in march, though it remains very warm. And dont miss the Daintree rain forest.Everyone will try to sell you a tour but the journey up to Cape Tribulation is easily done by car.Thank you again to all reviewers who recommended the Nautilus apartments.
Great apartments and fantastic service with a smile!
We stayed in an apartment at Nautilus whilst on our Honeymoon in Port Douglas and had a fantastic time. Matt & Ange are so friendly and personable and were happy to stop what they were doing for a chat. Their knowledge of the area and the tours that are available is fantastic and really let us enjoy our stay. When chosing things like 4x4 trips or boat trips Ange was able to outline the pros and cons of the various tours and make recommendations to suit the type of trip we wanted to have.
The apartment was clean, neat & tidy, and had everything we needed to live comfortably for a week - including a full kitchen for those nights when we didn't want to dine out.
The easter eggs waiting for us outside our apartment on Easter were a fun surprise!
The pool isn't huge but was a great place to relax after a long day. The walk into the main shopping and restaraunt area of Port Douglas took us about 10 minutes, and the 'Gone Bananas' restaraunt, which was quite good, was only a few minutes walk in the other direction. Catching the shuttle bus into town (runs every 15 minutes from morning till around midnight) costs $2/person each way, and a taxi ride was about $7. We didn't have any problems at all travelling to or from Nautilus.
Overall a great stay, and we would stay at Nautilus again in an instant if we're lucky enough to return to Port Douglas in the future.
Great place for moteliers to have a break
AT the end of a very busy season at our own motel in New Zealand and with two adult children with us. This was the best place to so. We had plenty of room in the apartment. Matt and Ange were very knowledgeable on the local trips. The trip up to the Cape with Tony"s was just the best. A must do. And they know the location of the best fish and chip shop in town. We will be back.
Thanks to Matt & Ange,
My wife, son and I spent 9 nights at the Nautilus and found Matt & Ange so friendly and helpful. They organised our reef trip, golf game, horse riding, sky rail to kuranda etc.
the apartment was clean and tidy, and had everything we needed. Even when we required a large fry pan to cook our barramundi fillets it was no problem at all.
It is a ten minute walk to the main shopping and restaurant area.
The pool isn't huge but was a great place to relax with a champagne or two.
Over all Matt & Ange help us to fully enjoy the whole far north Queensland experience. we found the Nautilus to be good value for money.
Amazing value - we'd go back tomorrow!
As we left the apartments to catch our flight home - another guest yelled into reception "Thank you" - we think this was a response to the little easter bags hanging on the apartment doors that morning (Easter Sunday). Ange and Matt are a real asset to the place - it's their genuine friendliness and ability to make you feel welcome that has motivated us to write this review. It's good to see people really caring about their business - and their customers.
We stayed 9 nights at the apartments and really enjoyed our holiday. We had a family member visiting from the UK and the apartment was a great size for us - two bathrooms, air-conditioning throughout with separate controls for each room, an internal laundry, the kitchen had all you needed to cook up a banquet, and you could dine al fresco on the balcony if you wished.
Ideally the pool area would be larger and more luxurious - but bearing in mind that Four Mile Beach is very nearby, and the bargain apartment rates we didn't mind. We found lots of activities to do that took us from the poolside anyway - horse-riding, snorkelling at the Great Barrier Reef, kayaking at Cape Tribulation, fishing and croc spotting. There's a lot to go and see in the area!
Port Douglas won't disappoint either - we'd heard good reports about the charming, laid-back town - we loved it! The apartments are in a good location - close to town but not right in the centre so very peaceful. Sitting in a waterfront restaurant we texted a friend back in the UK - "we're at On the Inlet - in Port Douglas!" Her reply "I'm very envious - have a cocktail for me!" She had a great time in Port Douglas too!
Great place to stay
My friend and I stayed at the apartments for 7 nights during April 07. Matt and Ange were so nice and helpful to us. They booked our tours and had great knowledge of the various tours and what to do and see whilst staying in Port Douglas. The rooms were clean, spacious and very accomodating. Highly recomended.
Thanks guys. Michel and Rose.
Couldn't ask for more! fntastic
We have just returned from our wedding in Port Douglas (we live in the UK). We booked the majority of our wedding guests (and us) into the Nautilus for the week prior to the wedding. What a great decision. Matt and Ange were so helpful, you could ask anything from them and they helped - even the day before my wedding they organised a last minute coach for our party! They did everything they could for all of my guests the whole week. The rooms were huge - much bigger than we expected for the price! Kitchens had everything you needed and they were so clean. They also provided your own garage for your cars.
Location was ideal - just outside of town so not noisy but right by the beach for easy access in the morning. The pool area was a bit small but this wasnt a problem.
Basically i would recommend this place to anyone - we will definitely be back sometime soon. Fantastic!!! A real home from home.
Great Place To Stay !
What a fantastic place.
Cool, clean, spacious, relaxing apartment with all the amenities with polite and helpful owners Matt and Ange to help with local knowledge and booking of trips in Port Douglas and the surrounding area. The grounds attract many birds and small wild life(No Crocs! You can see a Green tree frog or a bush baby,we think?),which sing their calls as you start or end your day on the balcony with a cup of tea or cool long glass. Stroll into town through the palm lined walkway or catch a "Nipper" from an unobtrusive bus stop 1min away,if your in a hurry.Trips are all pick-up and drop-off at apartments, there is garage space for the rental car and on-site bike hire for local investigation. When your done with the day or need an invigorating start step into the pool and drift!.....Magical!
There is a shaded BBQ area with free large (3ft-2ft) gas griddle and grill BBQ with a picnic bench next to the pool, very handy if you burn your finger tips!
Oh,and the romantic South Pacific is a 5min saunter, try this at night with a full moon.
Thoroughly recomend these apartments.Enjoy. Garry and Jane.
Wonderful Place to Stay
What a wonderful place to stay. We stayed for 5 nights in a two bedroom apartment. It had a tropical feel to it from the furniture to the lush vegitation and palm trees that surrounded the grounds. This provided homes to lots of wildlife including lots of tropical birds that greeted us every morning to little lizards that could be found on the ceilings of the walkways and patios. (They were only outside, never inside for all those people scared of lizards) The apartments are right across the street from a beach access pathway so quick stroll and there you are on a lovely beach. It is also lovely 10 min walk to downtown or you can take the shuttle which stops right by the apartments. Matt and Ange are super friendly and will help plan any trips or give you restaurant suggestions. If I ever make it back to Port Douglas (hopefully I will) I will definitely stay here again.
