More about Peninsula Boutique Hotel

Lovely Hotel

by TripAdvisor Member Happyfolk

We recently spent four nights at the Peninsula Boutique Hotel.

The rooms at the Hotel are some of the best we have ever stayed in. The rooms are very well decorated and extremely well designed and spacious. The bathroom is huge, with a bath large enough for two (or more). The design of the room allows for all the rooms to be individual, or for you to open it up entirely, including to the outside world.

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and made excellent local recommendations for trips and places to eat.

The pool area is on two levels and makes an excellent place to start the day, with the excellent buffet breakfast.

The Hotel is only several steps away from both the beach and the main street, with lots of restaurants and bars within a few minutes walk.

A hotel that we would very much recommend.

P.S. If you like seafood, the "2 Fish" on Wharf Street (5 min walk) is fantastic

Great start to our Honeymoon!

We stayed here for 5 nights from 19th-24th June this year. We had just arrived in Australia after a long flight from Ireland 2 days after our wedding. I have to agree with the recent reviews on this fabulous hotel. It really is a lovely small boutique hotel. The location couldn't be beaten and the staff were just excellent. Always so helpful and friendly, nothing was ever any trouble. Great breakfast each morning really set us up for the day. The rooms are smaller than they look in the pictures but they are still ample. We had a lovely view of Four Mile Beach from our balcony and the complimentary bottle of champagne in the fridge was a lovely added small touch. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to others.

Charming place!

Just had an enjoyable 6 night stay at the Peninsula which is a real "chill out" place with good friendly staff who are there if you need them and spotlessly clean well equipped rooms. It is in a quiet spot right at the end of the long main road through Port Douglas and opposite the beautiful 4 mile beach, although there is a road between hotel and beach it wasn't a very noisy road-I had more noise problems from the squabbling gheckos in my room at 3 am nightly!! I certainly would stay again and if I was to be critical in any way I would have to say some internal soundproofing would be a good idea, or maybe stay in a top floor room!!

A gem of a spot

Firstly, you can't book through their website as they refer you to one of their agents. Not a problem. We stayed for 5 nights at the beginning of October, requesting an ocean front room. Every day and night, looking out at Four Mile Beach and hearing the crash of the waves, it was great.

Rooms are very nice and comfortable with a kitchen including a range top, sink and a frig. Good lighting, ceiling fans (didn't use the AC) and a nice deck made the accomodation satisfying.

Brekkie everyday down by the pool area. Rooms with the view of the pool are fine and perhaps a bit quieter as the hotel doesn't cater to families with smaller children. Staff are helpful and can guide you on restaurants as well as tour operators for the Reef, Daintree, and all the other activities.

Location is great as it's a 10 minute walk to all the restaurants in town, notwithstanding that their own facilies are quite good. We did the reef, the rainforest, horseback riding out of Wonga and a trip to the Tablelands from this central location.

Only complaint is I wish they would include a sweep broom as we tracked in some sand and dirt from walking about and they didn't really seem to get in and hoover the room every day. Minor point.

Crowd was mainly from the Commonwealth countries with a few from the States and mixed in age from retired to recently married.

I would highly recommend this hotel for its location, level of accomodation and service, and for being in the wonderful village of Port Douglas.

Very Standard Bedroom

by TripAdvisor Member Lucan

My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights during our trip to Oz.

I booked same as a result of reading the good reviews on this website and it being recommended to me by Trailfinders. This a lovely place and very relaxing HOWEVER I don't think the bedrooms are up to 4/5 star standard....

The food was lovely, the staff couldn't be any more helpful (especially the young barmaid who was very helpful and worked two jobs in the town)

The pool area was fantastic and very quiet as its adults only. There wasn't many guests there so we had the pool to ourselves which was nice.

We paid 265 euro per night and I expected more than the basic room that we got. It was an ocean view room and the bathroom was lovely but I thought the kitchen area and bedroom were very very standard.

I would recommend this hotel for its location and service if you got a good deal on the price but if I was to go Port Douglas again I would rather pay for a 5 star hotel.

Right choice

by TripAdvisor Member ondrew

Excellent hotel, clean rooms, well furnished and comfy, we loved staying here. They even gave us free champagne on my birthday!
Only a minute's walk to the main street, 50 yards to the sea. Maids come round everyday.
The photos on their website dont do it justice e.g. the Pool and sunbathing area are much bigger than photos suggest.

Highly reccommended.

When first arriving at the hotel we were a little taken aback. The reception area was not what we expected. With it being a relatively expensive hotel 4/5 star, the cramped area is not a big selling point, more than one arrival at the same time and it is crowded.
However, the staff were extremely friendly and very helpful which to us was the major plus point of our stay there. We had a pool view room which was adequate. Thankfully the air conditioning was very good and it was on 24 hours every day.
The hotel is ideally situated being right on four mile beach and a handy walk from the restaurants.
The swimming pool is again somewhat different, very small and mainly in the shade, but again adequate.
The hotel was second choice for us as our original pick was having refurbishments. There is no doubt there are quite a number of modern 5 star hotels in the Port Douglas area but none that we saw with a handier location, for that it is worth a visit.

Beautiful boutique hotel

by TripAdvisor Member coram

We had a great time at this lovely hotel, only about 30 rooms or suites which are spacious and have own very well equipped kitchen area and terrace with own loungers and chairs. The location is great , right opposite 4 Mile Beach- breakfast is either overlooking the pool or the beach. Staff are all extremely helpful and friendly and will give advise on tours and local restaurants and will book things for you.Whole ambience is calm and relaxing, they supply free DVD's and CD's to use in your room. Also have secure underground carpark.Pool is a little small if you're a serious swimmer but perfect for quick dips and also there's a jacuuzi on upper level. We'd love to return and can't recommend it enough.

Book this hotel - it's fabulous!

by TripAdvisor Member roset862

We stayed in this hotel for three days - and wished it could have been three weeks! From the moment we were met so warmly by Julie in Reception, we felt completely at home.... . My Mum who was travelling with me is 87 and quite deaf, however everyone was so friendly and helpful that she was put entirely at her ease during our stay. Our suite was gorgeous - lovely decor in keeping with the ambience of the hotel, a large balcony overlooking the famous 4mile beach, fully equiped kitchen area, and an open - plan bathroom (made discreetly private by a sliding wooden door)) with a free-standing shower and a bathtub big enough for two!! The pool area is on two levels with a waterfall, and looks really exotic. As there are no children the area is very peaceful and great for sunbaking, lulled by the sound of running water! There is a lovely buffet breakfast set out alongside the pool (we only have fruit and toast in the morning, but there looked to be a good selection of hot food and pastries also), - and the atmosphere was quiet and unhurried, a great start to your morning. As for the management and staff, we cannot praise them highly enough - nothing was too much trouble, and it was so refreshing after staying in larger, more impersonal hotels, to be made to feel like part of the family! They will book all your tours and make your restaurant reservations for you, and always seem genuinely interested in what you have done and where you have been during the day. It was raining heavily when we left, but James (the Manager) and Genevieve his wife, still came outside and stood under an umbrella to see us off! Things like that you always remember...... . Oh, and there is complimentary pick-up from the airport, complimentary washing machine and tumble-dryer, and very user-friendly Internet access! Add all this to a stunning location that is only minutes walk away from the shops and restaurants of Port Douglas, and I don't see how anyone can fail to be impressed by The Peninsula Boutique. I would recommend it to anyone, and will certainly be staying there again if ever I go back to that part of Australia.

Up there with the best

by TripAdvisor Member lea321

Stayed at the Peninsula for 4 nights on our tour of Oz. What an amazing place. Yes it is small but perfectly formed and not what you would usual expect from a hotel of this star rating but that's why we loved it. In our opinion The Peninsula is up there with some of the best 5 star hotels we have staying in around the world.

The hotel is located in a perfect position over looking Four Mile Beach and only 5 mins walk from the main street where you will find most of the shops and restaurants. There is a road between the hotel and the beach but this is not a problem at all as we hardly noticed any cars using it.

Our room was lovely and located on the ground floor with a deck and direct access over the road to the beach. The room was spacious with separate sitting area and a fully equiped kitchen. Bathroom was great with oversized, very deep bath. The aroma therapy oil burners in the bathrooms were a very nice touch too.

Staff very friendly and extremely helpful when giving advice on tours and restaurants etc. Hotel restaurant small and relaxed with seating inside overlooking the beach or outside by the pool. Buffet breakfast excellent and very chilled - no fighting your way to the buffet here!

The pool was small but beautifully designed and most of the time we were the only guests using it. During our stay we only saw a few other guests although we were told the hotel was full which gave the hotel a very exclusive feel to it.

The Peninsular is the perfect place for a relaxing, peaceful getaway. We thoroughly recommend it.
