Apartments in Port Douglas

by melbourneman

Hi all,

We are coming to Port Douglas in January and are trying to decide on apartments to stay in. I have done a preliminary search and found three possibilities - Reflections, Verandahs & Coral Sea Villas. Any information on positives or negatives or which you think is better would be very greatly appreciated.

Regards!

Hi there,
Any of these apartments would be good to stay in.I have not stayed in any of these ones, but have walked past them.
They are all close to the main area, walking distance.
At that time of year you should be able to get a good price. There should be some good deals going as it isn't the High Season.
I have noticed that at least 2 of them are on sites like Wotif, Quickbeds and Lastminute. There will be a few more on these sites as well.
I wouldn't be booking too far away from the time you are going to travel, I would wait and see what prices are coming up, also ring the resorts and ask their price, sometimes you can get a better deal that way.
At that time of year, there will be heaps of standby prices as well...sometimes these are good, sometimes I think they aren't,
There are heaps and heaps of apartments in Port Douglas, all offer very good accommodation, you may find that closer to the date you are coming, some more well priced ones will be found.
Even if you get one that is out a bit on Davidson Street, there is a little shuttle bus that regularly picks up along this route, there is also a local bus.

Have a great holiday in Paradise:)

Travel Tips for Port Douglas

Best Coffee this side of the Black Stump!

by Anne12 about Whileaway

This is a great little place to sit and have a coffee with or without one of the yummy cakes they have.
This coffee place is joined to a book store, you can check out the books while having coffee. The latte was to die for.....
The little chocolate cheese cake was pretty good as well:)

Rainforest Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary

by sue_stone

Located a few kilometres from the centre of Port Douglas, on the way into town, is the Rainforest Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary. This park is filled with a variety of flora and fauna and is a great place for all the family.

There are four different environments to discover - rainforest, grasslands, woodlands and wetlands. You take a walk through each section, enjoying the animal spotting and the changing surroundings.

You will see stunning parrots, friendly kangaroos, massive crocodiles, and beautiful storks. We were thrilled to see some large, elegant storks nesting on a couple of giant eggs (which we heard hatched not long after our visit).

St. Mary's by the Sea

by ettiewyn

St. Mary's by the Sea, built in 1911, is a very pretty church located next to Anzac Park. It is made of wood and painted white and looks beautiful and cute. The interior is also very special: Instead of a cross or picture above the altar, there is a window that looks onto the sea!

Of course this church is very popular for weddings, and I'd say it is the perfect location for this purpose!

Best Home Base to see the Great Barrier Reef!

by saraheg77

"Port Douglas - Lovely laid back small community!"

I have been to Port Douglas twice now and I have to say I love it! It is the perfect place to stay when going to see the Great Barrier Reef, as many of the tour boats leave directly from the little marina at Port (what the locals affectionately call Port Douglas). It is a small community and only about a 60k drive north from Cairns. It has a beach area and lots of great little restaurants.

"Beach Stuff"

If you are looking for white sandy beaches, then this isn't your spot, but Four Mile Beach in Port is a nice little beach to at least get in some sunning and swimming. It is more of a beach than you will find in Cairns. In April, the marine stingers were bad and therefore an area to swim was roped off with netting to keep out the stingers. However, in September, the stingers were no longer a problem and the ropes & net were gone... just the two flags they recommend you swim between so the lifesavers can keep an eye on you.

At the far end of this picture you can see some rocks... we sat on these in the late afternoon and all of a sudden I looked up and thought I thought a massive spider, but it was a crab creeping up the rocks as the tide came in. As I looked, I saw several more and made my way back to the beach to get out of their way! :)
