Port Douglas to Mossman

by Craigellachie

Can anyone give me an idea of the taxi fare and journey time between Port Douglas and Mossman?

Re: Port Douglas to Mossman

by suzyq40

If you are talking about the mossman I think you are, then the journey would cost you a few $100

Re: Re: Port Douglas to Mossman

by Craigellachie

The Mossman I am thinking of is much closer to Port Douglas than Cairns is. (I read that the taxi fare from Port Douglas to Cairns is about $120 so I suppose I thought Mossman, wbeing much closer, would cost less). The coach fare is $8 but the coach times might not suit me which is why I wondered about a taxi..

Not sure about taxi fare but from memory the drive was about 40 minutes.

Re: Re: Port Douglas to Mossman

I managed to get the answer from the horse's mouth. For the record, it's $38 one way.

Re: Re: Port Douglas to Mossman

Might be cheaper going by horse ;-)

Re: Re: Port Douglas to Mossman

the mossman i thought he was talking about is in Sydney, hence the couple $100 cab fare lol

Re: Re: Port Douglas to Mossman

:-)
To Sydney I think a three figure sum would be far from enough :-) As it happens we will be going on to Sydney from Port Douglas but that'll be by air - three hour flight from Cairns. I dread to think how long it would take by road.

Travel Tips for Port Douglas

ANZAC Park

by ATXtraveler

As you could well imagine, being 100 km north of the nearest airport, away from everything else, most would consider all of Port Douglas as "off the beaten path". Once you are here however, there are a few places you can find for a peaceful sit and think about things.

One of those places is located right at the end of the main drag in Port Douglas, sitting right on the water is ANZAC park, which is in memory of all of those serving to protect Australia from the Australian/New Zealand Army Corp.

There is not much to the park, but there is a nice little market on Sunday, and the rest of the week this place is virtually silent.

Kuranda Scenic Railway

by Tam13

A greta day out - we caught the gondolas up to Kuranda adn had a nice pub lunch there.
Ont eh wat back we went on the Kuranda Scenic Railway. Upgrade to Gold Class, it really is very enjoyable and you are basically assured of getting a window seat, along with endless refreshments and a souvenir pack (pen, pin & postcard).
The views are great.

Take a trip to the Low Isles

by sue_stone

Port Douglas is the closest gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, and on our first visit to Port Douglas we took a trip out to the Low Isles. Located 15km from Port Douglas, the Low Isles is a large coral cay surrounded by many different species of hard and soft corals.

This beautiful coral island is the prefect place for beginner snorkellers and families. There is a sandy beach to relax on, and calm water to swim and snorkel in.

We travelled out there on the Quicksilver Wavedancer, which departs most days from Port Douglas Harbour. We really enjoyed the trip and made use of their snorkelling equipment to get up close with the local underwater life.

If you are susceptible to seasickness (as I am) you may want to have your tablets on hand - on the trip back to Port Douglas the wind had picked up and it was pretty choppy.

Great Barrier Reef & tropical North Queensland!!

by GlobalMatt

"Great Barrier Reef - the grand-daddy of all reefs!"

It goes without saying that the Great Barrier Reef is the most celebrated in the world. It is the largest natural feature on earth stretching more than 2,300km along the northeast coast of Australia from the northern tip of Queensland to just north of Bundaberg....and is visible from space. This oceanic marvel actually consists of over 2,800 coral reefs, thriving in shallow tropical waters. Its marine life diversity rivals that of the rainforests. The threat of declination of the world's reefs are also similar to that of the rainforests...and we all need to be worldly with our care and concerns for these precious wonders.

"Rainforest Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary"

This place is a MUST SEE if you're in Port Douglas. We actually experienced "Breakfast with the Birds"...literally. What an amazing sanctuary, where birds are the feature presentation. The Rainforest Habitat is situated on 8 acres of rainforest land dedicated to giving visitors a sneak-peek into the lives of these awesome species in their natural surroundings. There are four unique environments populated with a wide array of birds, animals, insects, & reptiles. They display rainforest, wetlands, woodlands and grasslands areas here. Snorkelen in het Great Barrier Reef

by Alain_Smeets

Zondag, 12 september is onze reef-dag, we gaan namelijk snorkelen in het Great Barrier Reef.
