In April, when my best friend came to go to the reef, this was a great find on lastminute.com.au and was a great 2-bedroom villa that ideally suited my husband, me & my best friend. I got this place for a great deal of AU$99/night (about US$75), but this was partly because of a special for staying 5 nights or more. I just looked it up and the same room would be AU$130-$150 for less than 5 nights and depending on the season. Be sure to look things up on lastminute.com.au to make sure you are getting the best deal!
The hotel wasn't luxury, but was nice and clean and very large with a full kitchen, washer & dryer, living room, dining area and 2nd toilet downstairs. Upstairs was a bedroom with a queen bed, one with 2 twins, and a bathroom with tub & shower. Both bedrooms also had small balconies.
The location was close to Port Douglas, but a little too far to walk if you were in a hurry (might have been 20 - 25 min to walk in to the main area), so you would probably need to have a car here or use the shuttle bus service that was between $2-$3.
The hotel also had a high speed connection that was easy to use and less than $20 for 24 hr access.
Overall we thought it was a great value with the deal we got, so be sure and check a few places for the best deal at the time you are looking!
Unique Quality: There were three pools at this location, but we only went in one. It was lovely... it was large with two pools connected by a little cave thing that you could swim through and sit inside. While you sat inside the cave, you could punch a button to make it a jacuzzi (though not heated).
Directions: On the left side of the main road going in to Port Douglas
Sarah is definitely the master of internet booking. So far, we have never been disappointed in the accommodation that we end up with our locations. On this occassion, we accidentally ran into the Rendevous, since our previous accommodation decided they were going to "up-charge" us because of Easter weekend. It ended up working out for us, because we instead decided to try the Rendevous, in which we rented a nice holiday villa with 2 bedrooms, 2 full baths, laundry, and a really good air-conditioner for $99AUD a night.
The villa had high speed internet available, a phone line for ordering in pizza or thai, and also a television with DVD player to keep yourself entertained on rainy evenings.
The main hostess on our arrival was named Judith, and she was extremely friendly and helpful, even recommending a few places in town to eat.
