Beach Shack

I loved this place, from its no shoe policy to its free dvds and plentiful mattresses to watch them on. To the individually decorated rooms, lots of bunk beds in each room but it felt very community like, some people had been there a while, there were no locks on the doors, there was free bike hire, nice hammocks to lie about on and just friendly people there really.
I'm was glad I moved from Scotty's and spent three nights here.
Free pick up from Greyhound coach stop, AU$20 per night, free tea and coffee. An easy walk into town.

Scotty's Beach House

Free pick up from the Greyhound bus stop as it's quite a way from the main high street, AU£20 per night plus AU$10 deposit for cutlery and plates, I always resent a place for having to do this.
The rooms were dark and dingy, and things seemed a little dirty. I got bitten to high hell, though this was probably more to do with the rains than the hostel. There was free tea/coffee and I had a great night out here, it has a bar attached.
There was a small swimming pool and lots of places to sit on the veranda which was nice. And only a minutes walk to the beach.

Santuary Retreat: The real wilderness

My husband and I loved this place - especially for the price! We stayed in a tent hut, and saw a cassowary every day we were there! We visited in August; the temperature was comfortable. We had a rental car - it is about a 20 minute hike to the parking area. They'll take you in a 4 wheeler when you arrive with your luggage. One day we went on a rafting tour with R&R; that was great too. I can't describe how awesome the views are from this place. We ate in their restraunt both nights there - gourmet!! Oh yeah, if you stay there take a flashilight and your own towel (though I think they'll loan you either for a price). The price was $50AUD a night.
Read the FAQS on their website, it cvers almost everything...

Unique Quality: Amazing views!!

Beach Shack: Hostel in peaceful surroundings

Stayed here for 3 nights. It is a place in nowhere more or less. But you can go by the minibus to Mission Beach Town Centre if you need something. Otherwise just lay by the beach or the swimming pool and enjoy the peace and tranquility.
The hostel itself is nice. But the biggest dorm is too big with its 14 beds. The kitchen is nice and so is the newly renovated bathroom - with tub. However the water in the pool is not that clean...

Castaways on the Beach: Luxury at Mission Beach

Castaways on the Beach is located, well as it name gives away, right on the beach. All the rooms have private balconies facing the ocean. You can choose from regular hotel rooms to well equipped spa units. The staff was really friendly and the restaurant served great food. The swimming pool was nice also.
