Currumbin - See native animals.
by Jerelis
Take in the sights of Australia by visiting the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary where you can see native animals face to face in natural surroundings. The Sanctuary is also recognised worldwide as a quality research and conservation facility.
Conveniently situated beside the main highway and still only metres from the sandy white beaches of the Gold Coast, the Sanctuary is an opportunity to visit the green behind the gold. Over 1400 native birds and animals call Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary's 27 hectares of landscaped surrounds and natural bush land home. Whether its viewing the snapping jaws of freshwater crocodiles from a safe distance or a hands-on approach feeding wallabies in the open paddock, there are plenty of interactive animal experiences to enjoy.
'Surfers Paradise'- My Thoughts
by Peteboa
"'Surfers Paradise'"
As the name suggests Surfers Paradise is an ideal location for that strange breed of australians who feel inclined to attempt to balance on a slab of board over shark infested waters. Infact anyone who seeks 'sun, sea and sex' will find it in abundance here. I am indeed partial to all 3 in moderation. However, if you, like me, have an ounce of cultural interest be prepared to be thoroughly let down; Imagine Blackpool under intense heat with more high rise buildings and less charm and you are somewhere near.
"In Defence of 'Surfers Paradise'"
The coastline is without doubt pretty spectacular: miles of golden sand and clear blue sea; as the coastline is so vast you are guarenteed to find a quiet spot. As i lay on the beach, looking out to sea in glorious sunshine, i began to warm to the place. It is only when i turned around to see the hideous concrete sprawl of 1960's tower blocks and Macdonalds' that i was reminded how depressing Surfers Paradise is.
"Nightlife"
Night time hid the ugliness, if not the brashness of the place (though that may well have been the excessive drinking). For all its many faults, Surfers Paradise is a great place to go out, get legless and find a 'chick to root' as the locals would say. Great if it was a saturday night back in england, but personally not what i travel to the otherside of the world for. The reason i say this is there is very little else to do here.
