Value near the city centre

I chose the City Motor Inn as our accommodation through an internet search, as it was moderately priced, close to the city centre and in what looked a fairly quiet side street. As it transpired, during the day there is quite a lot of passing traffic, but the traffic noise was not a problem as the motel is end-on to the street. The motel itself is part of the Golden Chain Group (hint: if you stay with any motel in this group, get hold of a copy of the chain’s loyalty card, it gives discounts for future bookings).
The motel is not new, but the main rooms have been refurbished fairly recently and come with the usual tea/coffee making facilities, fridge, TV (with bonus DVD player) as well as fairly standard furniture and (another bonus) a writing desk. The TV includes the Austar satellite channels but, if none of those excite you, it is possible to hire DVDs from the office. The air-conditioned rooms also have free wireless internet for guests with laptops and there is a free broadband connection in a lounge for those who do not. Another bonus is a free continental breakfast. It was spotlessly clean and, all in all, I thought it excellent value: it certainly matched the promise of what had been presented on the internet. The only ‘negative’ was that the room’s air conditioner sometimes went into a ‘thumping’ cycle, but as we turned if off in the evening that was of trivial importance.
