Travel Tips for Toowoomba

GOING CUCKOO!

by balhannah

Cuckoo, Cuckoo!! This is what all the clocks say at the Black Forest Hill Cuckoo Clock Centre.

If you haven't been to Germany, or seen a good display of Cuckoo Clock's, then come here, it was wonderful!

This Centre was begun 23 years ago by a German gentleman who wanted to share the clock making traditions from the Black Forest Region of South West Germany.
What a collection there is, literally 1000’s of different Cuckoo Clocks and almost 100 German Grandfather Clocks on display. There is a variety of wall, mantle, grandfather clocks, wooden toys, dolls, German Beer Steins, Music Boxes, Cow Bells and xmas decorations just to name some. I thought this was an excellent shop for buying gifts for Birthdays, Christmas, etc., so many different ideas, and good quality items.

It is located just 20 minutes drive north of Toowoomba on the road to Crows Nest, or a two hour drive west of Brisbane.
Open 7 days........ 8.30am to 5.00pm Mon – Fri

St. Patrick's Cathedral - Free floral display

by balhannah

Every year when the Carnival of Flower's is on in mid September, St. Patrick's Cathedral hosts a free floral display.
We wandered in for a look, and were stopped by a helpful lady who told us a little about the displays. Most of them were done by Tafe student's studying floral art, some by school children, another by one of the Nun's. All of them were different themes.

Beautifully done, with lots of different ideas, including fruit used in the floral arrangement.
We thought it was lovely, and gave a donation on our way out.

Why visit Toowoomba

by ogb4619

It's an hours drive from Brisbane, through the Lockyer Valley which is the major fruit and vegetable growing area of Queensland.
Toowoomba is the gateway to the Darling Downs, the major grain growing area of Australia.
In its own right Toowoomba is famous for several things, mainly the annual Carnival of Flowers which is held in early September each year.
