Modern, clean, cramped and boring.
We planned to stay at the Hotel Ibis for 5 days, but when we saw it we looked around for other options (see my review of The Aquarius Hotel).
This hotel is new, clean, tidy and modern but the standard rooms are tiny, none of the bathrooms have bath tubs and we felt cramped. There was one small window in the room which looked out onto a sloppy parking lot, so we covered the window for our whole trip. It may have been better to let the sunlight in, but it wouldn't have made a huge difference.
This hotel is well-located; easy walking distance to Flinders Street Mall, many restaurants, and other businesses as well as the main bus stop. And it's only a mile or so from the strand.
There's nothing particularly bad about this hotel, but for $150 AUS (on a corporate discount) I expected more.
*We used this hotel as a jumping off point for trips to the great barrier reef, the casino, and the Billabong nature reserve.
Unique Quality: Free instant coffee and tea in rooms with a hot water maker. Movies and special features can be ordered through the in-room TV. Restaurant downstairs looked nice, and hotel guests can get a continental breakfast with juice and coffee for about $16AUS, which is the regular cost of a continental breakfast plus free drinks.
