What I still have to do...
by ettiewyn
Always leave something for the next visit! These are the things I didn't do in Townsville so far and that I want to do when going back:
Hike up Castle Hill - It must be a nice hike and a great view.
Maritime Musum of Townsville - I just love maritime museums!
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Centre - Interesting gallery and exhibitions, was closed when I was there.
Queens Gardens & Anderson Park - Two botanical gardens. I like to have a picnic in the shade, look at the flowers and relax a bit from exploring the town.
Museum of Tropical North Queensland
by northeast80
Townsville is seen as the capital of North Queensland, here we have the Museum of Tropical North Queensland.
To be honest I didn't go inside, just went in the shop, but I liked the building, photos to follow.....it is right along the water side so you get lovely views of the harbour.
They have displays on the wildlife you'll find, especially under the sea, fossils, a reconstruction of HMS Pandora’s bow, lots of interactive science things to do, and information on the history of Townsville.
Open from 9.30am-5.00pm, 7 days a week, (except Good Friday, Christmas Day and Anzac Day morning) the main entrance to the museum is on Flinders Street, entry for one adult is AU$12.
If anyone's interested a flinder is a butterfly in Dutch.
Great Barrier Reef Aquarium
by stevezero
Townsville is now one of the ( if not the leading centre) for research into The Great Barrier Reef and the award winning Great Barrier Reef Aquarium will give you a taste of the reef without setting foot offshore
The aquarium contains one of the largest living coral reefs in the world.
Great Barrier Reef Aquarium is open from 9.30am to 5pm, 7 days a week, every day of the year except Christmas Day.
The Strand at Townsville
by Crikies
Once again, this is business travel for me. Now you're getting jealous, because there can't be much better business destinations than this. The Strand at Townsville has been redeveloped into a magnificent public space.
Sorry, I've lost my Townsville photos!
