Daydream Island Resort and Spa: Island paradise

Daydream Island is one of seven islands of the Molle Group in the Whitsunday Islands.

Daydream Island Resort and Spa is a large resort on this small island and is a perfect place to relax and unwind.

Hamilton Island: Fabulous Marina

am just writing about the Whitsunday Islands generally as seeing we were Island hopping on our yacht we got to see the worse and best of the Islands. So i'm hoping this little bit of information will be helpful to other travellers. Hamilton Island is fabulous if you have a boat as one can moor and use the Island facilities with a reasonable fee. (Booking is recommended)
Hamilton has eveything for the "boaties" to restock on food and water. There is a chemist, bakery, supermarket, wine shop, restaurants, cafes, pub and best of all SHOWERS with HOT WATER.

We stayed three nights on Hamilton and we enjoyed ourselves mainly because we could stretch our legs and stop swaying for awhile. The Island has been over developed with tall skyscapers which look so ugly from the sea. Very disappointed that this sort of development is allowed. The resort area seems okay but the beach looked terrible as the tide was out.........and it looked like a mud bath !! The pool area was ordinary for such a large resort.

Golf buggies everywhere .....noise unbearable.....we refused to get one and walked everywhere....which was so easy just a five minute walk from resort to marina. Why you need a buggy is beyond me.

So if I was going to stay here I probably would hate it....but because we could use the facilities it was fabulous....

ADVICE: Hire a yacht...cruise the Whitsundays there is so much to see...that way you will not be disappointed.

South Molle Island.: One of the cheapest islands.

We visited South Molle Island whilst Island hopping on our yacht. We have seen most of the Whitsunday Islands and personally we all enjoyed our small time here. It certainly had a very laid back style to it, swaying palm trees with bangalows looking out to the sea. We loved it because it was simple not trendy, expensive or crowded. Plus there was no fee for using Island facilities. Don't think I would want to stay here for more than two days as not much to offer. Pool seemed small filled with children and bar area very old hat. Bangalows or units appeared ordinary but then again it was very reasonable compared to the other resorts in the Whitsundays. This hotel would suit backpackers or economy travellers. People who enjoy simple things in life like sitting watching the sunset or throwing a fishing line out from the wharf.

PROS: Cheap compared to other resorts. Laid back feeling. Casual. would suit budget and backpacker travellers not those looking for the nightlife.

CONS: needs updating. pool area small.

Daydream Island Resort: the Jewel of the Whitsunday islands.

Daydream Island is the closest of the Whitsunday Islands to mainland, lying just five kilometres off the coast. Just one kilometre long and half a kilometre wide, Daydream is only a short ride from the mainland.

Of its three beaches one is fringed by outcrops of coral and colourful fishlife. The centre and highest point of the island is a small but dense jungle of tropical vegetation inhabited by parrots and tiny sunbirds.

There is snorkelling along beaches with fringing coral, and water-sports including sailboarding, jet-skiing, parasailing, coral viewing in glass bottomed boats, and reef fishing. Play tennis, volleyball, badminton or croquet. Learn to dive or try sea kayaking. You can now also play mini golf on the Island at a spectacular putt putt golf course that needs to be seen to be believed.

Daydream Island Resort and Spa is the only hotel on the island, it offers a range of accommodation styles to suit family vacations, romantic Whitsunday Island honeymoons, conferences and events.
Choose from tranquil Garden and Garden Balcony rooms or spacious Ocean Balcony Rooms with spectacular views across the Whitsundays. Most rooms have a balcony and each is nor more than a stone's throw away from the water.

The boat: Sleep on board!

To truly be at sea you must sleep on board whichever vessel you've chosen. To do so you must choose a boat that has the capacity to sleep your entire crew. That is to say 'party boats' such as Jade or Tongara do not have such a capacity and you sleep on one of the islands. If the ocean isn't your thing then maybe one of the latter boats is the thing for you. However I personally feel you'll be missing out as there is nothing I find more relaxing than just chilling out on the deck staring up at the stars letting the sounds of the ocean wash away any troubles.

The soft rolling of the ocean will lull you into a deep sleep. If you get seasick easily, however, it may just make you run to the bathroom! Also if it's clear enough and warm enough try sleeping on deck. Stargaze to your heart's content and then drift away to Never Never Land...

There is no extra cost in staying on board. Room and board are included in all Whitsundays sailing packages.

Beaches Backpackers: Beaches Backpackers

Beaches Backpackers is located in the heart of Airlie Beach, just across from the waterfront and Airlie Beach’s man-made Lagoon swimming pool - making year-round swimming possible. Beaches’ central position and popular Bar & Restaurant provides nightly entertainment and offers the best of Airlie's famous nightlife.

Our doube room ended up being a six bed dorm which was OK. This is not the place to stay if you want to sleep. The bar is very rowdy and goes on till the early hours - call me an old fart - I know!!

Airlie Waterfront Bed & Breakfast.: Airlie Beach`s finest view

Superb waterfront accomodation, great facilities and close to all the best things that Airlie has to offer, the lagoon, the town and the sea. The name belies the fact that this actually quite a nice place to stay, very intimate & I would certainly come here again.

The room we had was excellent, a great jacuzzi, shower and toilet area, cable TV (we watched the cricket world cup final and not a lot else) The great brass bed was uncomfortable and you tend to notice these things on a honeymoon but the balconey and views were great, (watch out for the lorikeets, they will let you feed them by hand) the sheets were crisp and the fridge well stocked....the more I recall the more I want to be back there.

Hook Island Resort: Hook Island Resort

Hook Island resort would be the cheapest of them all in the Whitsundays and it shows as soon as you arrive there.

The resort is a little run down but they still have a pool, bar, beach, water sports etc to keep you going. There are camping grounds or cabins available... This resort seemed to be more for the budget traveller or backpackers...

The views are still amazing and there is snorkelling from the island. There are also bush walks around the island...and an underwater observatory so you can see the fish up close without getting wet.

Hamilton Island Resort: Hamilton Island Resort

We didn't spend a night at the Hamilton Island resort but we did spend a bit of time looking around as we spent a night in the marina...

Hamilton Island is more of a town in itself with everything you would find in a small town including a post office and night club!!

The resort is on the other side of the island and is a little more upmarket/commercial than South Molle Island. The resort has shops, a huge pool, bars & restaurants to name a few things.

South Molle Island Resort: South Molle Island Resort

Although we didn't stay overnight at South Molle Island resort we did spend some time there. The resort is very friendly and open and has a lot to offer.

There is a golf course, restaurants, cafe, shop, water sports, swimming pool and spa, bar, tennis courts, volleyball, hiking tracks and much more.

It is one of the 'cheaper' resorts (although still pricy) in the Whitsundays and is a little more family orientated.

Cumberland Charter Yachts: Sailing Trip

We hired a 40 foot catamaran from Airlie Beach and travelled around the Whitsunday Islands with some friends... We had five people on a 10 berth boat so we had plenty of room (I wouldn't recommend 10 people on it). The boat (an Elite 12) was amazing...big and roomy... The photos really don't do the boat justice because they make it look much smaller...but for five people we had plenty of room.

The freedom to sail yourself where ever you like (within limits) and enjoy the beautiful Whitsundays...and to stop off where ever you want, whenever you want. :)
