Riba's Underground: Riba's Underground

If going to Coober Pedy, do as the locals and stay underground. this place won't break the bank and has plenty of charm.

Old Timers Mine Holiday Let: A whole house Undersground!

When we arrived at this amazing *dugout* we were surprised to be greeted by a 3 bedroom house underground.
This *dugout* was hand dug in the early 1950's.
3 Bedrooms, large lounge area and kitchen.

The houses were built underground because of the harsh summer weather.
The temperature of these dugouts stay at around 23C everyday of the year.
Very comfortable and big enough so as you don't realise you are underground.

I would higly reccomend this Holiday Let to anyone.

It was clean and the owners also have the Old Timers Mine business which is just over the road. They are a lovely couple and have a great story to tell of how they became locals in this amazingly unique town.

Unique Quality: JUst living underground for a couple of nights was an unique experience:)
I did enjoy it being dark and also not a sound could be heard from outside.

Joe's backpackers & budget motel: Great hospitality

This is one of the most interesting places I've stayed. At first I thought it was really weird sleeping in a room underground with no windows. But it was actually nice. I always have trouble sleeping even when there's just a tiny bit of light. Here when we turned out the lights it was pitch black.
If you're lucky (or if you just stay here) Joe will probably tell you about the time he and his wife starred in Priscilla-Queen of the Desert.

Unique Quality: It is underground!
They do tours and they aren't too expensive.
They have opal-cutting equipment. The manager's son helped me cut an opal I found so that I could have it set in a ring later.
