Rustic & modern both at the same time.

Kangaroo Island Wilderness Resort is part motel, part hostel. It was included in our package tour of Kangaroo Island, so I don't know the exact cost of the motel itself.

Large room. Rustic. Pleasant, comfortable. Good hot showers, good beds. Wonderful breakfast.

Clean, felt safe, all ground floor attached rooms in short buildings of about 4-5 rooms per building.
Each room has its own porch with chairs and table.

Large, clean and attractive dining room in separate building.

Unique Quality: Very nice. I would happily return there.

Gateway to Flinders Chase National Park

The Kangaroo Island Wilderness Retreat is located close to the entry point of the Flinders Chase National Park - the most popular destination on Kangaroo Island. An overnight stop allows better access to the National Parks. A feature of the Retreat is its eco friendliness and it is not unusual to see wild life right outside the door of your lodge.

We were delighted with the facilities provided in our Courtyard Suite . We found the room clean and well fitted out. Our stay was for one night.

Our Courtyard Suite was typical of an Australian motel size-wise and featured a king sized bed and a single bed (to suit three adults). It also had connecting doors to an adjacent room to suit family of six.
All mod cons provided: private bathroom, eco-friendly toiletries, air-con&heating, cable TV, DVD/CD player, IDD telephone, bar fridge, tea/coffee making , iron, hair dryer, electronic safe, furnished deck overlooking central area.
Internet terminals available at the reception area. Plenty of parking (but not adjacent to room a la motel). Fuel is available.
Lodge Rooms - Less expensive lodge rooms are available in the main building. Room features: queen and single bed, private bathroom, hair dryer, fridge, tea/coffee making facilities.

We enjoyed dining in the Licensed Restaurant, the Nicolas Baudin.
A cautionary note#1: One has to be a little patient with the staff. We found that the wait-staff were not "hospitality-trained" Australians but foreign visitors chosen for their appearance, I suspect, rather than their grasp of basic dining etiquette and table service. We never did get the correct glasses for our sparkling wine after a couple of attempts to give the girl some basic tips on wine service.
A cautionary note #2: Our room was well screened from normal insects on door and windows however some very small flying midges could gain access. Insect spray was provided in the room. Take care during summer as the mosquitoes are vicious - bring you own repellent. Bush flies are prevalent so if you don't like doing "The Aussie Wave" some form of head gear with netting may suit you.

Unique Quality: Location, location, location.

The outstanding location makes up for some service inadequacies and the higher than usual room cost.
