Prairie Hotel: Parachilnas best Pub

We stayed in the Prairie Hotel on 15/16th April 2007.
The Pub is truly isolated and is not on mains power - a solar/diesel power station down the road supplies all electricity. Prices reflect the need to transport everything - but that said they are comparable with Wilpena Pound (85 Km away) and the standard of food and service is much higher. We stayed in a "Heritage Room" and the room was clean, quiet, & airconditioned, with quality fittigs and an ensuite. This really is capital city luxury in the middle of nowhere.
The food was magnificent and the staff very friendly.

Yes its setup for tourists and not cheap - but the service and prices are streets ahead of other places near by.

Unique Quality: The Prairie Hotel is a cross road for travellers - you end up talking to people from all over the place. Dont expect to run into too many locals as the town is the hotel.

The Flinders Ranges and Wilpena Pound are an easy drive away through scenic Brachina gorge.

Sunset & or Sunrise from the Pub veranda with a beer in one hand are fantastic.

  • Opinion of Price: most expensive
  • Address: Cnr High Street & West Terrace - its the main building in the town.

Prairie Hotel Parachilna: in the middle of nowhere !

Parachilna has an official population of just seven but it's remoteness adds to the pleasure of its one and only "hotel". The Prairie Hotel is truly an oasis on the Flinders Ranges in South Australia, some of the most ancient and fascinating formations on Earth. From the hotel one can enjoy magnificent views of both the Ranges and the vast red desert plains.
The look and feel of this hotel is very typical Outback, in its very sense of the word. Nevertheless the rooms are very convenient and rather comfortable (especially the old ones, not much so the newer ones, partly dug into the earth for "AC-reasons")
The restaurant and bar are exactly what one expects from the Outback, with good and typical food and beer, beer and beer.

Unique Quality: the only hotel in a perimeter of 90kms, well kept, with friendly people, good food and drinks
