Terra Rossa Wine Club: Penola's best value restaurant

We had a great meal at this restaurant, despite being told by some of the locals to stay away. The owners are new in town (2 years) and so are not part of the "Penola in crowd" but that doesn't stop them running a great restaurant/wine bar. Our family had steak and oysters and all was good. Highly recommended.

Nice interior, with barrels up one wall and stools and tables made from wine barrels.

Heyward's Royal Oak Hotel: Biggest in town

A very old, historic hotel. It has been beautifully renovated and restored to its former glory. You can have a great lunch here, there are pokies, a couple of bars and great accomodation.

Prince of Wales Hotel: only hotel we saw in town

It was a little run down, has obviously been there awhile but it cost 57 australian dollars, at the time like $40 usd. The people were nice, the bar was a town hangout, it was fun.

Nothing outstanding but a good location for wine tasting the Coonawarra.
