We stayed for three nights about year and a half ago in the motel style accommodation, but you can stay in upmarket villas, backpacker type accommodation or camp there. We had a good look around and all the options are well set out and close to shop/bar/restaurant. The service is fantastic, the Spriggs are extremely knowledgeable hosts (their father was one of the most notable Geologists in Australia) and their staff are there because they enjoy their work. We took up the option of the Ridgetop tour (a must if you go up there) and also the did the astronomy thing with Doug (unfortunately there was a fair bit of moon giving off light noise that night..but interesting all the same).

Please note that this hotel is not in Port Augusta, it is about 400km north, but worth the trip if you are wanting to see one of the most unique parts of Australia.

Unique Quality: Great views of some of the most unique landscapes in South Australia, knowledgeable hosts, good facilities, 4WD tracks, well signed walking tracks, or take guided tours, camp it or eat out every night!

Directions: Drive North to Hawker then drive through the Flinders Ranges, follow the mainly dirt road after Wilpena Pound.
