    Modest accommodation with great landlords

    by

While not in the 5 star category, Guichen Bay Motel offers modest accommodations at a reasonable price. The great thing about the Motel, however, is the 'bend over backwards to help you' service you will get from hosts Murray and Jane Pitt. These guys will accomodate your every need, have great advice (and will spend the time telling you what you need ot know) on local sights, etc.

These days you unfortunately don't tend to get the guy who cooks your food come out of the kitchen and check that you are happy. Murray has that good old fashion sense of care about what he produces and what you want.

Unique Quality: Great hosts, a nice little restaurant with old charm and good food. The menu features quite a bit of local produce and is accompanied by a selection of very local wines from the Mount Benson/Cape Jaffa region.

Always keen to have a chat and please their guests, Murray and Jane Pitt will make you feel welcome and wanting to come back to stay again.

  • Australias worst?

    by

This was the worst experience my wife and I have ever had in probably more than 100 hotels/motels & hostels stays. We would definitely not go back, even if it was free!
The room was very dark, but not dark enough to hide the dirt and mess on the floor. The carpet had obviously not been vacuumed for a good deal of time.
When we pulled back the bed cover there was over twenty hairs on it, some appeared to be pubic hairs as well. For the first time ever I went to bed with my clothes on.
The water had to be taken from the bathroom for the tea, it had a strange taste even after boiling for tea. The curtains were very difficult to close properly. There was an intermittent banging noise coming from the main building, which we could clearly hear from our chalet two doors away, this went on until late at night. Our neighbour said he thought it was a boiler. The TV looked about twenty years old, the type you tune on a knob on the set when you want to change the channel, no remote control.
We were to be collected by our coach at 8 a.m. in the morning, so a breakfast time of 7.15am was suggested by the proprietors. However, no one was there at 7.15 as six of us waited for the breakfast room to be opened. After constant banging of the door and ringing of the telephone we managed to get the owners out of bed by 7.45a.m. Far from being apologetic (having confessed to oversleeping) the owner had a very surly manner and was very impatient when taking the breakfast orders. My wife noticed that his t-shirt was clearly not fresh with dirty food stains on it. It made us wonder if he had washed his hands before preparing our toast. The best thing about the motel was that we were only there for one night
