Our stay at the Grosvenor hotel should have been great - the price was only $80 for the room for the 3 of us (shared bathroom) and it was a nice building, historic stone pub, and nearly all the rooms on our floor had balcony access to the huge veranda which ran around the building..but therein lies part of the problem, as the night we stayed there, there just happened to be a sport team staying the night celebrating a win....and they celebrated all night on the balcony just outside our room, so we didn't get much sleep at all. The staff were sympathetic the next morning and gave us a 50% refund, so I think I'd stay there again, as surely we were just unlucky that an entire drunken sport team chose that night to party.
Location is very handy, as it's right in the main street, only 5 minutes walk to the Granite Island bridge to view the penguins as well, and the pub's restaurant downstairs is one of the most reasonably priced restaurants in town. | | | | Whalers Inn: Comfortable stay. | Satisfaction: | | | | |
We stayed at the Inn for two nights and found it to be very comfortable accommodation. Our apartment consisted of three bedrooms which were located downstairs on the lower level; a bathroom with a huge spa bath was also attached to this level. Upstairs was a large open plan area with a spacious kitchen with good quality utensils, microwave, stove, and tea and coffee facilities. A lounge room and dining room were combined with a sliding door which leads to a big open balcony with beautiful views of the sea. This hotel is not a five star establishment but is a very comfortable country family style accommodation. There is a tennis court, swimming pool, restaurant and bar. Parking is also provided outside your unit. The restaurant has an interesting menu with a good quality wine list. We found the food to be excellent and the staff very attentive. The hotel is located at “The Bluff” which is approx 10 minutes drive south of Victor Harbour and nestles on the foreshore of the bay. We noticed that it had changed hands and new renovations are supposed to be happening in the future. The furniture could be easily updated to make it a little more modern. (Especially the bed quilts). The only thing we found was the location was annoying, as it was located outside of town. There are numerous pubs in town to have a good cheap meal, which also have accommodation available if you wanted to be closer to the action. If thinking of staying at Cape Jervis before heading to Kangaroo Island then forget it, Victor Harbour is a lovely seaside town and far more appealing and interesting, Whaler’s Inn is approx 30 minutes drive away from Cape Jervis and a far better choice to be positioned.
I would highly recommend this hotel for those who are travelling to Kangaroo Island or for large groups or families. For singles, Victor Harbor has some fine pubs and hotels to stay at. What to do: Walk across to Granite Island and see the penguins at dusk. Visit the town of Goolwa, Port Elliot, Hindmarsh Island, and Coorong National Park and see the Murray River Mouth. For some awesome scenery take a walk on the “Heysen Trail” which can be connected to just past the Bluff or at Parsons beach or Newland Headlands. Head to Cape Jervis to catch the ferry to Kangaroo Island. Theme: HotelPrice: US$40-80 » Currency ConverterComparison: about average
